Enola Holmes 2 (Review) - Social Criticism or Investigation Movie? [EN/ES]

Hey did you know that Enola Holmes 2 came out? the movie that tells the story of the sister of the most famous detective in history Sherlock Holmes, well it happened so fast that a second Enola Holmes movie was released that I have not even been able to see the first one, although this adaptation (which is outside the official canon of Sherlock Holmes) does not call my attention, I saw that on Netflix was on the list of most viewed of the week so I gave it a chance and see how Enola solved difficult crimes and her unique method of doing so. But I only got me with one more movie of the bunch that instead of having a good plot, they just want to make a social protest, of course with this I am not saying that the movie is bad, if you are entertained by the suspense and the investigation and how everything develops, but as everywhere you see social protests without sense, in which in this film joins this, it makes it take away much shine.

But I still wanted to give you a review commenting on the good and interesting points of the plot, especially the mystery they try to solve, that when you think that Enola and Sherlock Holmes have reached the bottom of the matter, the plot turns and finds a new villain, which is epic.

The film begins with Enola (starring Millie Bobby Brown) opening her own investigative agency, as the case she solved in the first part gave her the strength she needed to embark on her path as a private detective. Although everyone recognizes that the case she solved was solved by her brother Sherlock Holmes, she doesn't care and goes ahead, but suddenly she finds out the sad truth, that because her last name is Holmes, nobody takes her seriously since she is in the shadow of her brother's name, and they even believe that she is his secretary. So Enola has to be forced to close her agency for lack of clients, but when she is about to leave a girl arrives asking for help to find her missing sister, Enola accepts and there begins a case that ends up uncovering corruption, negligence and death. So Enola, her brother Sherlock and her boyfriend try to solve this case.

Now let's talk about the aspects that fascinated me about the movie, for example, the plot has a kind of infinite tension like Hans Zimmer's work that was used for Batman Dark Knight, since the plot starts soft with a minor case, but little by little it unfolds to something much bigger, so much so that they had to ask for Sherlock's help, also it is unique how Sherlock's case joins with Enola's and together they work to solve it.

Another thing I was fascinated to see because it was a pretty interesting move, is that Sherlock's iconic villain, Moriarty, was changed to a woman of African descent. And I say that this was a unique and iconic move, because if we analyze the historical context we will understand that it was a well done move, for example in the 1800s in Europe and the United States people of African descent were considered inferior or dumb because of their skin color, and as there was slavery and racism this was much more accentuated, and if we examine Moriarty, a genius of the shadows and mind games that is also considered inferior or dumb because it makes him even more dangerous, so that was a good point.

Now let's talk about what I didn't like, the first thing is the social criticism, as I said before, the world is full of criticism propaganda. Newspapers, social networks, even in the family you can hear this, and the truth is something senseless. For example, Enola's film tries to give a message of social criticism, that women can do the same as men, but if we look at it from a broad point of view we see that this makes no sense. In this century and year that we are in, women and men have the same rights, they can work in the same job and each one can do what they want with their lives. That is like someone fervently fighting that the earth is flat, in the midst of such detailed scientific advances and that from space itself man has been able to see with his eyes that the earth is spherical.

That's why when a movie has an interesting plot, but it gets lost in trying to please the minority and their social criticisms, it loses the sense and value of the movie. But as I said before, Enola Holmes is fun and even entertaining, but by getting lost in absurd social criticisms it loses the sense completely and you don't know what is the destiny of what they want to transmit, if it is the story of a young detective or a young feminist.

Well this has been my opinion of Enola Holmes, the new Netflix movie, if you have already seen it leave me in the comments what you thought, and if you still do not see it when you do let me know your opinion. Thank you very much for reading, see you next time :D
