(Movie review) "Gold" - What risk are you willing to take? [EN/ES]

How far are you willing to go to achieve your ambitions? Many times we want to achieve important things in life, perhaps achieve wealth, fame or achieve power, but we almost never think about all that we must risk to achieve the objectives, that often the sacrifices we must make are always much worse than we imagine.

¿Hasta dónde estás dispuesto llegar para lograr tus ambiciones? Muchas veces queremos lograr cosas importantes en la vida, tal vez lograr riqueza, fama o alcanzar poder, pero casi nunca nos ponemos a pensar en todo lo que debemos arriesgar para poder lograr los objetivos, que muchas veces los sacrificios que debemos hacer siempre son mucho peores de lo que imaginamos.

I begin my post with this phrase How far are you willing to go to achieve your ambitions? since it stuck in my mind after watching the powerful Zac Efron movie called Gold or Desierto de Oro in Latin America. An indie film but one that makes a great impact on the viewer as it is suspenseful and survival style that has very raw or vivid scenes of the great sacrifices that those who want to achieve somewhat unimaginable things must go through.

Comienzo mi publicación con esta frase ¿Hasta dónde estás dispuesto llegar para lograr tus ambiciones? ya que se quedó en mi mente luego de ver la impactante película de Zac Efron llamada Gold o Desierto de Oro en Latinoamérica. Una película indie pero que causa un gran impacto en el espectador ya que es de estilo suspenso y supervivencia que cuenta con escenas muy crudas o vividas de los grandes sacrificios que deben pasar los que quieren lograr cosas algo inimaginables.

The plot of the film is based on Virgil, a young man who in a dystopian future where society is on the verge of collapse, Virgil has many ambitions in life and so he dreams of going to the Complex, a place where he can get a job and a much better life than the one he currently lives. So he arrives by train in a town where he meets Keith, a man who owns a pickup truck and takes trips through the desert. Virgil hires Keith to take him to his destination, but on the way the truck crashes and while they are trying to repair it, Virgil walks a little to urinate and discovers at his feet a shiny rock that looks like gold, quickly calls Keith and both verify that it is gold, so they begin to dig to get this rock, but they realize that it is extremely huge, so much so that even with ropes and pushing with the truck they can not get it out. So Keith proposes to go to a city to look for a digger, but one of the two must stay guarding the rock and the other must leave, Virgil does not trust Keith at all so Virgil decides to stay to protect the gold and wait for Keith with the digger. But as he is a city boy and has never had experience in the desert, he will have to face a great series of dangers that will put his life at risk. Will Virgil manage to get the gold and become a millionaire? You have to watch the movie and find out :D

La trama de la película se basa en Virgil, un joven que en un futuro distopico donde la sociedad está al borde del colapso, Virgil tiene muchas ambiciones en la vida y por eso sueña con ir al Complejo, un lugar donde puede conseguir empleo y una vida mucho mejor de la que vive actualmente. Así que llega en tren a un pueblo donde conoce a Keith un hombre que tiene una camioneta y que hace viajes por el desierto. Virgil contrata a Keith para que lo lleve a su destino, pero en el camino se les accidenta la camioneta y mientras están tratando de repararla, Virgil camina un poco para orinar y descubre a sus pies una roca brillante que parece oro, rápidamente llama a Keith y ambos verifican que es oro, así que comienzan a cavar para lograr sacar esta roca, pero se dan cuenta de que es sumamente enorme, tanto que ni siquiera con cuerdas y empujando con la camioneta pueden sacarla. Así que Keith propone ir a una ciudad a buscar una excavadora, pero alguno de los dos se debe quedar cuidando la roca y el otro debe irse, Virgil no confía para nada en Keith así que Virgil decide quedarse para proteger el oro y esperar a Keith con la excavadora. Pero como es un chico de ciudad y nunca ha tenido experiencia en el desierto, deberá enfrentarse a una gran serie de peligros que pondrán su vida en riesgo. ¿Conseguirá Virgil sacar el oro y ser millonario? Tienes que ver la película y descubrirlo :D

Personally, this movie impacted me a lot, because I identified with Virgil in his journey to seek new opportunities to get a better life. Of course, in my case I never had the opportunity to leave my country to another one, but, although I stayed many times I almost sacrificed my life for things that were not really worth it. For example, by wanting to work so much to get what I considered necessary my health was being ruined by stress, I lived unhappy and bitter and I did not have a good optimism about things when they went wrong. And even though I am calmer now because I have reorganized my priorities, it is necessary to stay focused in life. Because like Virgil, if I lose sight of what's important by chasing vain dreams, I can lose sight of what's really safe and go running towards things that are fleeting or not worth my effort. Virgil's goal was to go to the Complex, a place where he would get something safe, full of many sacrifices and challenges, but it was something safer, but getting sidetracked by gold altered his view on things and endangered his life. So as in a movie that is very much tied to reality it is an amazing movie. But something that also makes this movie amazing is not only the plot, but also one of the main actors is the director of the movie, which is Keith the actor Anthony Hayes.

En lo personal, esta película me impacto mucho, ya que me identifique con Virgil en su viaje por buscar nuevas oportunidades de conseguir una mejor vida. claro en mi caso nunca tuve la oportunidad de irme de mi país a otro, pero, aunque me quede muchas veces casi sacrifique mi vida por cosas que en realidad no lo valen. Por ejemplo, al querer trabajar tanto para conseguir lo que yo consideraba necesario mi salud se estaba arruinando por el estrés, vivía infeliz y amargado y no tenía un buen optimismo sobre las cosas cuando salían mal. Y aunque ahora ya estoy más calmado porque he reorganizado mis prioridades, es necesario mantenerme enfocado en la vida. Porque al igual que Virgil, si pierdo de vista lo que es importante por perseguir sueños vanos, puedo perder de vista lo que es realmente seguro e ir corriendo hacia cosas que son pasajeras o no valen mi esfuerzo. Virgil tenía como meta ir al Complejo, un lugar donde conseguiría algo seguro, lleno de muchos sacrificios y retos, pero era algo más seguro, pero al desviarse por el oro se alteró su visión sobre las cosas y puso en peligro su vida. Así que como en una película que se liga mucho a la realidad es una película asombrosa. Pero algo que tambien hace de esta película algo increíble, no solo es la trama, sino que además uno de los actores principales es el director de la película, que es Keith el actor Anthony Hayes.

And if we talk about actors, it is amazing to see Zac Efron the Disney guy in more raw and epic roles, the performance he had in this movie was outstanding, very attached to the character, I had not seen Zac Efron doing films of this style of drama, but his performance is pretty good, plus the performances of the other 2 main characters such as Anthony Hayes and Susie Porter was also quite outstanding. And although it's a movie that didn't have to spend a lot of money in hiring actors, it achieves an incredible balance with the 3 actors who do the most screen time.

Y si hablamos de actores, pues es asombroso ver a Zac Efron el chico Disney en papeles más crudos y épicos, la actuación que tuvo en esta película fue destacada, muy apegada al personaje, yo no había visto a Zac Efron haciendo películas de este estilo de drama, pero es bastante buena su actuación, además las actuaciones de los otros 2 personajes principales como es Anthony Hayes y Susie Porter tambien estuvo bastante destacada. Y aunque es una película que no tuvo que gastar mucho dinero en contratar actores, logra un balance increíble con los 3 actores que más hacen tiempo en pantalla.

In conclusion, Gold is a movie that will not disappoint you, if you are one of those who like the style of drama movies like the 2002 Pianist, you will also love this one, as it has suspense, drama, and an amazing ending that will leave you with the intrigue of knowing what happened, so if you have not seen it yet I recommend you do it and if you already saw it leave me in the comments what you thought.
