1 in 12 men are Colorblind

I came across this statement some weeks ago and it really surprised me. I've never known anyone with color blindness and to think 8% of all men have this condition was something new to me. Needless to say this is just some prediction, but still interesting. Even more when you consider that only about .5% of women experience color deficiency.

The reason behind this is because genetics is the cause number one for color blindness and the gene responsible for that is located on the X chromosome as a recessive one. Since men has only one X chromosome, once it has the gene mutation, it's game over. For the women, on the other hand, the gene has to be present in both X chromosomes, which is far more unlikely to happen.

I'm not a scientific guy, so I'm not going deep on it. However, I really wonder if that's a true statement, since where I live the color blindness is virtually inexistent and no more than a sporadic joke... or would be the case that it's just something unknown to them?

It's a fact that this is a hard-to-know condition, and there's a higher chance of someone learning to live with it without realizing his deficiency, not to say that there's different types of color blindness. It all depends on how much and what of the cone cells are missing. In some cases, it can be very annoying, but I guess for the most common ones, it's not that difficult to adapt with it.

Still I find it weird not to know at least a few men having this condition considering the probabilities. Maybe we were just built different LOL. Anyway, before I go out on the streets asking person to person to person about it I want to make an experiment here on Hive and see if probability somehow matches reality.

I put a simple color blindness test throughout this post, so if you haven't yet, go and try to recognize each number before you check the respective answers below. Then, don't forget to tell me in the comments (men and women, everyone is welcome) if you have this condition or not, whether you knew it before or just discovered it.

Results:

6 - 26 - 7 - 15 - 6 - 73 - 5 - 16 - 45 - 12 - 29 - 8

If you have normal vision, you should be able to distinguish the colors in all of these images and recognize the numbers for each one. You may end up making a mistake or two, but if you can clearly see the numbers highlighted in different colors, you are good to go.

I trust in Hive as my FACT CHECK, so let's see how accurate it is ;)

I was the only one who responded so far? What a shame! The amount of interactivity here is not good at all.

Yes, indeed. At least we got a 100% normal vision score for men.
