Yesterday I wrote a post titled: The Realities of Adulthood: a journey most people didn't plan to face, and I explained why most adults were taken unawares in entering into adulthood. Also, I said that adulthood is full of surprises and responsibilities.

Today, we'll be looking at the 3 stages everyone must experience before adulthood and any of this stage that's skipped, will affect the success of one's adulthood. Stay tuned as we navigate through the 3 different stages as fashioned by me.

The 3 stages of life before adulthood sets in:

  • planning stage
The planning stage is the most delicate part of everyone's life. This is because life gives you the adequate time to do so. What does this means. Nobody just moved from childhood into adulthood, it took several years to get there. Some were matured at age 13-14, while others 15-20 and some in their late 20s. If you'll agree with me, everybody had the necessary time to plan for their adulthood.
Let's take an average Nigerian, who got university admission at the age of 18 as our example for this section. My problem isn't getting admitted into the University at the age of 18, but what the individual was doing from after High school. The ideal thing to do within this period is to learn a trade or vocational skill that'll bring finances to the person. The reality of a true Nigerian parent will not allow vocational training because they prefer white-collar jobs than self-employment.

  • waiting stage
The waiting stage isn't as long like the planning stage. This is because, one is expected to take little responsibilities for him or herself. During this stage, one can still ask parents for some favors but not everything. Many get use to parents help and forget about what they can do for themselves. The next phase will tell.

  • reality stage
The reality stage is the full-blown adulthood, which is inevitable to avoid. At this stage, one is married or is a senior bachelor, living on his or her own and paying all the bills. From experience, ones anyone misses the first two states before adulthood, frustration sets in and aggression follows suit. The reality stage to me is the eye opening stage and if nothing is done to avert or rescue this stage, many will get involved in several crimes (armed robbery, kidnapping, thuggery) and social vices in order to survive.

Can people come out of the reality stage of adulthood

There's a saying where I come from that goes this way: anytime a person wakes up is he's morning. This means that a person can meet up with the pressures of life at any of the above stages and still do better in the remaining part of their lives.

The first thing to do at the reality stage is to remove anything discouragement and excuses. Once this two obstacles are off the way, then the road to success is guaranteed.

Avoid people that discourages you and stop making excuses for yourself. This is because discouragement and excuses are the setbacks anyone will face to succeed in life.

They said determination leads to success, so be determined to succeed and your success is guaranteed.

I guess that the same thing happens here also. Many parents want their children to just continue to university, and chase to be a civil servants. But as most of them will fail, it will leave millions of unemployed uni graduate which will bring more stress at their adulthood.
