Welcome to the commercial city of Hong Kong and we bring to you information about Cardinal Zen and the ongoing trial and the reasons he'll be facing trial on Monday.

Let's look at who Cardinal Zen is. Cardinal Zen is currently 90 years and a retired Catholic priest who became priest in 1996 and later became the Bishop of Hong Kong in 2002.

He's a devout Christian who believe in caring for others and I think this came to become more visible when he was the Chaplain in Pik Uk correctional centre, a maximum security jail in Hong Kong’s New Territories.

Be that as it may, the Cardinal today is facing trial for one of his good works, which has been seen as a crime by the Chinese government.

On Monday he will face court with five others, including popular Cantopop singer and LGBTQ activist Denise Ho, and lawyer Margaret Ng over a now-defunct fund that they set up to help pay the legal fees of people facing trial in relation to the 2019 protests.Source

My major concern about the trial is the fact that the accused persons are facing trial for raising fund to help pay legal fees of people facing trial.

The victims of the said incident were protesters that were against the Chinese government illegal detention of innocent Hong Kong citizens for their various beliefs.

It surprises me to know that fund raising is now a crime in Hong Kong and probably other parts of the world. To me this is very absurd and should be looked into and freedom given to Cardinal Zen and the other four accused persons. Although, they all have pleaded not guilty to the alleged crimes leveled against them.

It should be noted that Cardinal Zen and the other accused persons were arrested in May for colluding with foreign forces, but they were released on bail and will be facing trial on Monday.

“The Chinese government wants to cut off all forms of organizing and solidarity that run outside of the Communist Party’s control in Hong Kong,” William Nee, research and advocacy coordinator at Chinese Human Rights Defenders, said in an emailed response to questions. “The fact that Cardinal Zen is compassionate, caring, and well-respected in Hong Kong actually makes him a threat to the ruling authorities.”Source

If I may ask, is the Chinese Communist Party afraid of being conquered by democracy and it's tenets. Why is the Chinese government fighting peaceful protesters and those trying to help raise funds for them as far back as 2019.

This to me is a clear indication that the Chinese citizens are under the shackles of bondage and their rights are not given priorities.

What'll they do to a 90 years old man and let's assume he's guilty as charged, will they send him to prison and I'll like to ask again, is the said crime committed against international humanitarian laws.

“Cardinal Zen made the ultimate self-sacrifice,” Andreas Fulda, author of The Struggle for Democracy in Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, told Al Jazeera in emailed comments. “Deep down he must have known that the dictatorship in Beijing would never budge. Undeterred he advocated for Christians in mainland China. Firmly committed to the principle of non-violence he was part of an influential ecumenical alliance of faith leaders advocating for liberal democracy in Hong Kong.”Source

After the retirement of Cardinal Zen in 2009, he has been one of the frontline activists advocating for democratic reforms in Hong Kong as well as one who has stood up for the Christians in Hong Kong.

It's crystal clear that Cardinal Zen is fighting a just course in Hong and should be supported by everyone during this trial in order for him to regain his freedom.

Thanks!

Grace and peace to you all
