WHAT MAKES LEADERSHIP CHALLENGING.

Waking up this morning is the reality of leadership that has been bubbling in my heart.
I have been privilege to serve in different strata of life both circular and church. There are pertinent issues though many other scholars made several attempts to remedise the challenge but yet no attempt is absolute.

Leadership crises emanate right from families before eventually escalate to other facets of life.
My target is to highlight some of the challenges in leadership and Proffer possible ways of overcoming it.
The heartbeat of every organisation lies on the corridors of leadership.
Of recent I released a podcast on what is leadership and how leadership can be achieved.

Some of the challenges of leadership are;

  • Lack of succession plan. Most leaders are very weak and don't build others that will take over from them. For me this is one of the critical challenge on leadership. An organisation had a staff strength of more than fifty just after a decade, the ten branches they had shrunk and even the structures were at the verge of collapsing what really happened? There was no concrete plan for succession and good sustainability plan because they thought the surplus numbers of staff at their discretion was enough combat every challenge.
    Any organisation that failed to groom others certainly would crumble.
  • Inability to manage stakeholders. In leadership, stakeholders play a vital role. These stakeholders could be individuals that have both direct and indirect impact on the leadership system. It's expedient that these categories of people be identified so that a good management plan can be employed.
  • Lack of clarity of vision. I see vision as the most critical thing in leadership and when there is no definition and clarification to the followers, then be assured that the output and efficiency of people would be poor. One thing is to have a vision another thing as a leader is to make it plain to the people so that they can own it. If that is done, the resultant effect will be enormous breakthrough.
    Let the goal of the vision be specific, measurable, attainable, reliable and bounded by time.
  • A leader should be able to serve as a guide to help people move to the required destination. In guiding them you can stand ahead of them, at the middle of them, and stands behind them to guide them to arrive at a specific target.

I see a possibility of new leadership system if some of the aforementioned tips are properly considered. The ability to penetrate through the walls of challenge is What makes leadership interesting.
