The broom story my Dad told me: A tale from an African parent.

The broom story my dad told me and my siblings is a story most parent should tell their children and I understand the story more when I was old enough to know the value of a broom.

It was a beautiful night with a full moon in the sky, we had no electricity so we stayed under the full moon as we looked at my dad's face, he then began.

My children, do you understand what it means to stand together like a broom. "At first I was confused" you all are from one parent so you need to stick together and never let anything come in between you all. I won't be here always to look after you or correct you when you're wrong but if you love each other and stick together like a broom then no one or anything will break you apart.

He asked me to bring our broom which I did. He asked me to remove one from the bond and break it which I did so effortlessly. And he asked me to break the complete bond which was impossible. My other siblings tried also but it didn't work out.

He said. That's what I want you all to be like, like a broom that someone else would find it difficult to break, eh? If you abandon your brother or sister. The wicked ones of this world will pick them out and break them, it will not only hurt them but it will also hurt you. So remember always put your family first, stick together and never abandon each other.
