Facing challenges: October 18 20261

The humid air of Asaba hung heavy, thick with the scent of damp earth and exhaust as i navigated my motorcycle through the dimly lit streets of Okwe. It was 8:45 PM, and the vibrant life of the city had begun to retreat into the shadows, leaving behind a maze of uneven roads and unpredictable obstacles.
My phone buzzed—a notification for a late-night grocery order destined for a quiet estate tucked deep behind the bustling Former deputy's Road. As i maneuvered around a gaping pothole, my headlight flickered, casting a weak, yellow glow that barely cut through the darkness. Streetlights in this part of town were a luxury, and he had learned long ago that relying on GPS coordinates in Asaba after dusk was a gamble; house numbers were often faded, missing, or non-existent.
A sudden, sharp movement in the periphery of my vision forced me to brake hard, my tires skidding on loose gravel it was a stray dog darted across the path, its eyes reflecting the bike’s beam before it vanished into the tall, overgrown grass that lined the road, as my heart hammered against my ribs—a familiar rhythm for any night courier in the city.
As i reached the perimeter of the target location, the real test began I pulled over to consult my phone, but the signal dropped, fluctuating between 'E' and a faint '3G'. The customer wasn't picking up, and the security gate at the estate entrance was locked tight, with the guard nowhere to be found.
I waited, the silence of the night punctuated only by the distant hum of a generator and the buzzing of mosquitoes around my helmet visor. Every passing shadow seemed to stretch, heightening my anxiety as In Asaba, delivery work at this hour was a delicate dance between persistence and caution because i knew that one wrong turn down a deserted shortcut could lead to trouble, yet the promise of my daily target kept me grounded.
Finally, the gate creaked open and a weary-looking man stepped out, his face illuminated by the harsh light of a smartphone. "You took your time," the man muttered, indifferent to the treacherous roads or the flickering headlight that had nearly failed me three times that night.
i handed over the package, his hands slightly trembling from the adrenaline and the cooling night air, As i mounted my bike and prepared to head back toward the lights of koka Junction, he sighed. The pay was modest, the risks were real, and the infrastructure was unforgiving. Yet, as I kicked the engine to life, i knew i would be back tomorrow—a silent, determined ghost navigating the dark heart of Asaba to keep the city moving.
