Black Adam Movie Review

A couple of days ago Black Adam was released on the big screen and of course as a fan of superhero films i went to watch it. It's been like a tradition these past years, i go and watch all the Marvel and DC films at the cinema except if i have the feeling that it would a waste of money like Captain Marvel or the Eternals (such a good cast though).

Anyways i went to the cinema without knowing whether Black Adams will actually be a bad guy like in most of the comics or if they will give him a more hero/ antihero vibe. Before we start just a few info about the movie in case you are interested. The Director of the film is Jaume Collet-Serra known for Orphan and House of Wax. The writers are Adam Sztykiel, known for Due Date, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani
know for the informer.

The cast consists of Dwayne Jonson as Black Adam, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone and the one and only Pierce Brosman as Doctor Fate.

Plot

So the story revolves around Kahndaq a somewhat middle Eastern city that is oppressed my mercenaries and needs a hero. The exact same thing happened around 5000 years ago when their king enslaved the population and made them dig for super-rare substance in order to create a crown with demonic powers.

While the king was close enough to completing the crown, a kid revolted and led all the other slaves with him. The result was many to die and the kid to be publicly executed. Before the execution, though the kid disappeared and it was summoned by the mages who deemed him worthy and gave him the power of Shazam. Years later a mother along with some other "good" mercenaries are searching for the crown in order to hide it better and the "bad" mercenaries to miss it. Not that much of a plot right?

Soon they find the crown and the tomb of Black Adam but the mercenaries find them and are about to kill them. The woman asking for help from that hero that save her country 5000 years ago and SHAZAMMM, the Black adam comes back to life and kicks some ass.

At the same time the justice society with Hawkman as their leader puts up a team consisting of DR Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone in order to put Black Adam back to sleep as he is supposed to be a danger with his powers. Soon they will meet and get ready for some more ass-kicking. I don't want to spoil anything so let's leave it here!

What I Like and What I Didn't

To begin with, the visuals and the cgi are great and the fight scenes are amazing. Not only the movie is packed with action, you literally have 1-2 minute dialogs and then action again and again, but the action scenes are brutal. That's something that was needed as we are talking about a vilain/antihero so of course, we had to see more brutal and gore fights.

Another thing that i liked is that we were introduced to more heroes which is pretty cool and of them, DR Fate is quite a unique hero if you ask me. Let's not forget the acting as well. Although most of the acting, especially DR Fater's was excellent i can't say the same for Amon, which was Adriana's kid that summoned Black Adam. Honestly, the kid was bad, very bad and it's sad because he had many lines in the movie.

He was nothing like the kids on Shazam, each one of them had pretty good acting skills in my opinion. Regarding Dwayne Jonson, i may be biased but in my eyes, he is always the rock and actually plays himself. It's like i watch the same and same role in each and every movie his in. That's not a bad thing because we know what to expect but he can't deliver more i think.

Overall, It is a mediocre movie if you ask me to kill some time and you most likely gonna like it if you want something packed with action, then it will be pretty good for you. If you want something with awesome plot, that gives you some thoughts or with excellent acting then you will find this movie bad. That's why i believe mediocre is what best describes Black Adam.

Hey! Since it was announced I didn't expect to read a very positive opinion about it, for me it must be more of the same. I agree with you in saying that the Rock always acts the same, I have the same feeling every time I see him on screen. Hopefully Black Panther will offer us quality entertainment 😌
