Why Content Creators Need To Master The Art Of Storytelling

avatar

Storytelling is an art form that’s as old as time. As humans, we’ve always been drawn to stories and their ability to connect us with each other. Even before the days of television, films, and YT, people used storytelling to teach valuable life lessons. It's the heart of content creation and every creator should master this valuable skill. It can help you attract an audience, connect with them, and make them loyal to your brand as a content creator.

Storytelling Isn't Just For The Kids

People love stories. They're an integral part of our lives and make us feel connected to each other in different ways. But for many peeps (including new creators), storytelling is something reserved for children's books, films and TV shows. While it's true that there are many benefits to utilizing story when writing for kids, adult audiences are no less receptive to a well-crafted narrative.

As a creator, If you're looking for ways to engage with your audience or build trust with them, storytelling can help you do that while also building your brand as personalized and relatable.

Storytelling Helps You To Invoke Emotions

Storytelling is a way to connect with your audience on an emotional level. When you can make them feel something, they will begin to identify with you and take certain actions as a result of what they feel towards you.

The most successful content creators have mastered the art of storytelling because it allows them to have a deeper connection with their audience than those who are simply trying to get their message across in an informative manner.

People Remember Stories Better Than They Remember Facts

The brain processes stories much more deeply than it does facts. It's easier to recall a story than it is to recall what happened in the last meeting, or what was on page 23 of that book you read last week. And we can't help but be drawn into a good story. We'll think about it long after we're done reading or watching, even if we don't have time right now. That's because our brains are hardwired for storytelling. We've been telling each other stories since before we could even speak! Stories are one of the most powerful tools you have as a content creator; make sure yours are worth remembering!

Stories Help You Build Trust With Your Audience

Trust is the foundation for a good relationship, business and a brand. It's also the basis of what makes any story great: it's why we become invested in characters and their actions.

Trust is so important because it allows you to relate to other people on a deeper level. When someone trusts you, they want to follow your lead because they see value in what you're doing.

As content creators, we can use this same strategy as well: by building trust with our audience through storytelling (and making them feel like part of our journey), we'll increase engagement with our content and ultimately create better relationships with them. More on that in the next section.

Stories Can Make Your Brand More Personal

By telling stories, you can help your audience connect with your brand. Stories are one of the most effective ways to build trust between a brand and its target audience as mentioned in the above section. You can also use stories to create a personal connection that makes people feel like they're part of something special, which will encourage them to follow your lead or buy from you and spread the word about what a great experience it is being associated with your brand. By using storytelling techniques in this way, you'll be able to make up for any deficiencies in other areas where you might fall short. And if you've created that spark by telling good stories before anyone knows there was even anything wrong, you're going places!

By Telling Stories, You're Also Creating Your Own

Telling your own story helps you establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry. This can be done by sharing the challenges that you faced in the past or how you overcame them. For example: Back when I first started out as a writer on LeoFinance, I was unsure of what topics would resonate most with my audience. I shared what I learnt and tried to be as professional as I could be. But the blogs that got the most engagement were the ones where I shared my personalized hands on experience.

That's it folks! I hope you are convinced now. If you're looking for more inspiration on how to tell better stories, please wait for my follow up blog on the topic.

This is sooo a must read!

There are still people missing that "click" that creating content can be as simple as being yourself!

Because that's what we need more than anything today, treating people as people just by sharing your journey with them. You might find a person or two experiencing the same and maybe can help each other!

And adding emotion is so much fun than just plain text. People love gossip and scandal lol I sometimes make up words when my English sucks, which can add some funny emotion, well at least I try to be funny 🤣

Hahaha. Me too. xD After all it's all about content and not grammar or technicalities. Stories from our own personal experiences are relatable to other people because we all are PEOPLE. And that's what makes them funny.

You are funny Eliana. xD xD

I like this perspective and approach. I tend to present more facts than anything in my post but storytelling really is a great tool now that I think about it.

Hopefully it’s a skill I can pick up quick with some practice…

Great share!

Thank you so mate. Glad you liked it. Storytelling can do wonders for you as a content creator. Facts are boring and you should support them with a good story. Readers will enjoy that more.

sincerely, storytelling is a great skill as a writer but unfortunately, I don't have that skill. I just express my feelings about a topic and tell facts about life. Although, sometimes I try to share some events about my life and they are usually short written posts.

Haha. It can be learned over time bro, just like any other skill. The more you share your experiences via writing, the more you get better at telling stories.

I think a lot of people are nervous to really put their voice into their work. I wrote on Steemit years ago and focused on fantasy, but then one day I decided to be vulnerable with the community and wrote something personal. I wrote a piece about mental illness, overcoming mental obstacles and thriving with what you've been handed. Somehow that was one of my most supported pieces!

I couldn't agree more with this post, thank you for putting it so well... I think everyone can use a nudge to embrace their voice :)
