Marvellous Mushrooms

(Edited)

I grew up eating field mushrooms that popped out of the rambling lawns in the botanical gardens my father ran. Almost every year, sometimes twice a year, mushrooms pop up around our house.

This time they were huge. They smelt divine.

They pop out, from deep under, and out of and nests, pushing up through the stones on the paths in the vegetable garden.

I trundled one to the market and discovered that we've been living cheek by jowl with a mushroom man. The Husband has even worked on his property and they chat regularly at the market. For details of his reaction, look out for a "proper" post.

Suffice it to say that our giant mushroom are imminently edible.

And divinely delicious.

Last night's meat free Monday supper: mushroom risotto.

PS If you missed the last Rambo update, and more progress to report this week, check out my Sunday pos.

Until next time, be well

What a lucky find, we have seen mushrooms but unable to identify. Glad you were able to use the ones sprouting up in the garden, they look simply delicious!

Have a great day Fiona.

That's awesome Fiona, we sometimes have mushrooms popping up after a storm but I'm afraid that they may just be poisonous as I don't know how to identify them!
Getting nice and cool here🌻

Yes a favourite when found, remember the spot and hopefully you will have more to come. Up here on the coast they find massive ones just outside of Ballito near the sugar cane in kquakqui grass.

What a find! Given how expensive mushrooms can be, that is pure gold. They look superbly hearty and delicious!

Score!! So cool to find out 100% sure they were edible from a local expert. With that in mind you can eat without worrying what's going to happen in the next 30 minutes.

Thanks for sharing.
