Bright skies and burgers
On Saturday, because I had to take photographs of part of the perimeter fence of the church (another story for another time), I could not resist snapping this photograph.
Isn't she pretty basking in the late winter afternoon sun? Most of my photographs of the church are in the morning, looking at the south entrance from the market. It's probably one of the most photographed buildings in McGregor. The spire is not in proportion: the original one was blown off by a typical heavy McGregor wind and never replaced.
Sunday is for burger making
It was burger day, yesterday: the making and the eating of. Homemade burgers really are the best. One knows what goes into them one can also give them your own touch. About a kilogram of lean beef mince makes about eight to nine, 145 g patties That's four meals for us. They freeze well and play equally well with sourdough buns (which also freeze well). Quick, easy and healthy meals stashed in the fridge.
Cooking is simple - just one pan.
Also, I add very little extra fat to the pan - usually the juice of the burgers in a hot pan releases enough for the cook.
It's always a build your own burger, and in winter, I do potato wedges. Last night, because I still had a little (not enough) tzatziki, I added some mayo to extend it. It was a stroke of genius (ha!) because it worked very well - with the burger and the wedges.
Recipes? Yes.
For the burger patties, here and for the sourdough buns here.
Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:
- re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
- and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
- From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.

- lastly, graphics are created using partly my own photographs, images available freely available on @hive.blog and Canva.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
BTW - what the heck is that???
Tongs. The handle!🤦🏼♀️
That church is beautiful indeed. I guess a smaller spire makes it less attractive for nasty winds to mess with it 😁
Was it a tornado-like storm that blew the original off?
The burgers look delicious and healthy. I like the combination. I had not thought about potato wedges for a while. I used to eat lots of it when I was in the States. We rarely prepare them here as part of a regular dish or as side dish for a barbeque. We should.
Have a great week, @fionasfavourites
Given that it was when the church was first built (like 100 years ago), I can't tell for sure. What I can assure you of is that we have winds that do hectic damage. We're told that high winds, when our house was being built (we didn't build it), treated the newly erected roof rafters like dominoes that were flattened overnight! Not long after we moved here: we had a door leaning against a wall and a gust of wind blew it up and over my head. It could have killed me. That's also why they didn't rebuild the spire to its original spec.
Wedges are so easy - especially if you par-boil the potatoes. Delicious.
A good week to you, too @hlezama!
Wow. That's some nasty wind. I guess people are extra careful there not to leave anything unattached, lest it flies away or worse.
You stay away from flying doors 😁🤗
That must have been so scary!
It was a bit startling!
Beautiful building indeed and it stands out so well under the blue sky.
The food does look delicious… now I’m craving burgers hahaha 🤣
Will make some tomorrow, today is already planned!
Happy Monday @fionasfavourites 👋🏻☀️
Ain't she pretty indeed, I'm not surprised this is the most photographed sight in your village, beautiful photo Fiona!
I totally agree, nothing beats a homemade burger pattie!
OOOHHH! I'm in Middlebury VT, where many buildings are made of marble. This post makes me want to go out and photograph them.
Do! Our church is a great paint job, not marble. As far as I know, we have no marble buildings in South Africa.
