Chilli(n') - not quite - with more peaches

Sometimes, even of it's Sunday, and even if it's 43°C in the shade, stuff still has to be done.

Yesterday, I just had to deal with the rest of the peaches Cecil had delivered and the chillies The Husband had bought (at my behest) earlier in the week. It had to be yesterday: I have other stuff on in the week.

The jam was the easy, albeit long, bit. This recipe, and which will be up, properly, soon, uses little water, less sugar and no artificial pectin.

It's the little water that makes it a very slow start and it's also counter intuitive. One has to "grow" patience and resist the urge to add more.

It really isn't necessary.

Ten jars of jam. Jars my market pal, J, saved for me from Christmas fruit mince. As far as possible, I collect and reuse jars. I drive The Husband nuts sorting into shapes and sizes...

Hot chillies in 43°C

img_0.8987830920403934.jpg

While the peach jam was cooking, I addressed the chillies. This time they were all the littlest, hottest fnckers. I use what's available and I am running low on stock.

I am slightly allergic. Over the years, my tolerance has improved. Yesterday, though, I had a reaction like I have not had in nearly 20. It was not funny. My hands burned so badly for a couple of hours I had to make use of a paste of bicarbonate of soda to calm them down.

We think the humidity and 43°C were the major contributing factors.

Anyhow it's all done. And I was all done.

And it was still hot. I was in bed by 9pm. Light off by 9.30.

Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:

  • re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
  • and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
I blog to the Hive blockchain using a number of decentralised appplications.
  • From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.

Oki doke. I'll drop you a note tomorrow. It's been a helluva (hot) day. And Monday... lol

You can also check out my Instagram - I post what I make there. Marmalade (three fruit, lemonchilli...) not all is in stock at the same time.

That peach jam looks delicious. You may be right, and the disproportionate reaction to the chili may be due to the heat, which in itself can irritate the skin. My father used to say that rubbing a little oil on your hands before handling chiles helps keep you from getting burned with them.

Oh you got hubby to get you wee finger chillies, they are my favourites. Sometimes they are not so hot, other times they are well hot.
Am glad you got your peach jam all sorted.
