Frame of mind and reflecting on what one sometimes gains through loss

IMG_20230113_062007_230.jpg

The ducks are laying again. A pre-Christmas heatwave put them off their stride (so to speak). I suspect that as things heat up, they'll stop again. Anyway, that's a long way of getting to last night's poached eggs - with potatoes for The Husband, of course...

IMG_20230113_062007_192.jpg

It's been a while and I thought I was out of practise - it seems not. I don't know why they worked particularly well, and whether (as often is the case) it had to do with my frame of mind.

IMG_20230113_062007_150.jpg

And yes, I am still playing with my new plates.

About my frame of mind: I'll possibly write a bit more on this in time, but this has a lot to do with having "lost" a client. Without going into detail, it's a client that approached me and with whom I had a contract for two years - yes, through Covid. She was, to say the least, high maintenance and more so during Covid. She second guessed and micro-managed from another continent having knocked me down in my usual service fee. And when the proverbial hit the fan during the pandemic and when I had no other income even reduced my fee. Why? Because I couldn't do everything I would have been doing had we not been locked up and, and...

To say that backfired, is an understatement. To say that the "loss" has been my gain is also an understatement. The constant stress of yet another email and demand (one month, I got 2 a day until I had a minor explosion), in addition to the job I was supposed to do, I now realise, took up time and energy. Free of those, I am sleeping better, my brain is working better and, best of all, I have energy to accept more (lucrative) and meaningful work.

I had planned to can this contract, and that it happened in reverse and ahead of what I planned, has been a blessing.

Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:

  • re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
  • and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
I blog to the Hive blockchain using a number of decentralised appplications.
  • From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.

Often we go in with good intentions, life appears to take another direction possibly a blessing in disguise. Working online with our intermittent electricity, bad connection, no connection the internet is not reliable.

So glad things worked out for the better, once one is able to get over the negativity we tend to carry on!

Thanks, Joan. This was onsite work, not online, so not really affected by the drama. I do wish that the loadsh*tting would stop. It's enough now. It's not good for anyone, least of all work and the economy.

At the moment it cuts no odds whether off or online, no electricity, no progress.

What does make me laugh (want to hurl), is them pushing Smart City ideology, 4th Technical Revolution when the basics have been stripped down to the bare bone, how does one move forward?

Chin up, smile somehow we will manage !WINEX

Congrats on the "loss" - sometimes it is indeed better to just quit doing something, because it takes more energy than it's worth.

The plates are so beautiful! I recently saw some that reminded me of these, but could only afford one and there were very few left, so I decided to wait until I have more money set aside for "things I want but don't really need" and hope for the best. I've got this rule to always buy at least three of handmade, limited edition plates/cups etc - two to use and one in reserve. I guess I should up that to four now that the hubby's daughter comes visiting more often!

You are so right. In this instance I knew it wasn't worth it, but it actually took not having it to discover how toxic bad it was.

Those plates are. We are I am so fortunate (The Husband's not so sure lol) to be developing a bit of a collection. Trish and I barter and if I don't have anything to barter, we "bank" the value until she makes something I want. It's a great arrangement!

As saying, every cloud has a silver lining. I'm glad that the loss of that client is a gain in the end. And that your mood has made those poached duck eggs look so yummy ;) Happy weekend! 🤗

what a beautiful plate of food! Delicious and healthy. I am fond of poached eggs, but actually, I'm hopeless at cooking them. I'm in a similar position with my employer as you were with your client. Some people cannot be satisfied no matter how hard you try. I am hoping that my job hunting will be successful and I will spend 2023 in a healthier environment. Hold thumbs for me and I'll do the same for you, and yes, take advantage of the energy you have received back in return for her departure from your life. There are other clients and plenty more fish in the sea.

Thank you, Claire! There is a knack to doing poached eggs - and practise! lol

Thanks for the good wishes and yes, I'll be holding thumbs for you.

I did, for a patch make peace with it - and myself - by managing it hard because it was a case of needs must. However, I was actively on the look out - and prepaparing for something better. Put it out there and I believe it'll come.
