Friday Files: peachy

Yesterday was (and Sunday will also be) about peaches. A triple batch of peach chutney took most of the day, along with the usual buns.

C who sells seasonal fruits and vegetables that he gets directly from the farmers, delivered them in his wheelbarrow on Tuesday. Remember, the other day, I warned that there was more than just capsicums? (I hope to get more today).

They occupied the whole of our little outside fridge. This is just over half of them. The balance will must be jammed on Sunday which is slated to be 44°C....

Last night's supper of fishcake on the Thai slaw that didn't get into a jar for the market today. I recommend the combination for a change and have made a mental note to make more fish cakes. As fresh fish is hard to come by, this is an ok second, if not third option.

Now, it's 6.30am. The bread is in the oven and it is already 21°C. I am gearing for a hot and potentially quiet market. It's the middle of January, hot and our international visitors haven't started returning. Yet.

Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:

  • re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
  • and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
I blog to the Hive blockchain using a number of decentralised appplications.
  • From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.

Real Peach chutney & real peach jam sounds really good! Those peaches as well, the ones we buy have been refrigerated to death! Happy market day, I'm sure the heat is better than a freezing cold winter's day!

Lizelle it was 39.5 as we left the market at around 11h15. Ok, that was in the sun, but not much cooler at home and it's humid as hell! Any how, I will take it over the cold - any day!

I love peaches and those look extremely large. I would eat them all in one sitting. The fish cake looks delicious. Great combinations friend @fionasfavourites

Is your fridge very wee or are those pretty darn big peaches? The chutney sounds awesome and I hope you had a great day at the market.

A bit of both. It's a wee fridge and the peaches - some anyway - enormous. It was a good market, thank you. Better than last week! Except perishing hot!! lol

You are the best Fiona! @fionasfavourites Thank you for joining #MarketFriday!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through by their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:
