May Hive Power Up Day Delegations - an update from the Fab Four

Power Up Day - on the first day of each month - is a well established Hive tradition. It started in the first iteration of this blockchain and was the brainchild of @streetstyle. He's moved on - we're not sure why and wish him well - and published his last PUD post almost exactly four years ago. He left the initiative in the capable hands of @traciyork. Her hard work and subsequent partnership with @hivebuzz has ensure that the initiative - and powering up - is an entrenched Hive "thang".

Around about the time Traci took it over, I found myself in a position to help other redfish and began offering delegations to qualifying accounts. A year or so later @lizelle and @coquicoin joined me, and earlier this year, @ifarmgirl turned us into the Fab Four.

Why we power up [each month]

Here, is the @hivebuzz post about May Power Up Day. With the reasons why we participate in Hive PUD:

• Strengthen your influence on the blockchain with stronger votes on content, proposals and witnesses.
• Earn more curation rewards. The more Hive Power you have, the more you can potentially earn back
• Earn "interest" by holding Hive Power. You will also earn HIVE passively at about 3% per year of what you currently have powered up so the more HIVE you have, the more you can earn from just holding!

Mission - baby redfish

Our mission is simple: because we all remember what it was like to get started, and after each PUD, we each delegate 100 HP to young redfish accounts to help them on their Hive journey. We do have criteria - more about them, below - but more than that, our participation in Hive is social and as content creators, so this influences the criteria we use to assess accounts that we support.

We are also members of the Silver Bloggers Community, so this influences our decisions especially in a tech/cyber world where the older person is often invisible, if not ignored.

Power Up Day - how delegations will work - from now on

This month, we changed things and this is how our initiative will work, from now on:

we want YOU
assess the eligibility of either your account (or a friend's)
to nominate yourself or your friend

For the account to be considered, you will have to comment on each month's power up day and the Fab Four will perform our due diligence. If more than three accounts are eligible, we will do a lucky draw.

I will publish an announcement post between the 5th and the 7th of the following month, at which time we will also make our delegations.

Criteria for delegations

To be eligible for a delegation from the Fab Four, you must meet the following criteria – we do check –

• Your account must be be less than 6 months old
• You must have at least two qualifying posts since the previous power up day.
  Posts that qualify must have 200 words or more and exclude posts for Power Up Day, and Actifit.
  As a reminder, the reason for second criterion is because -
  Hive is a social blockchain: it's for socialising, ruminating and just generally hanging out.
• You have a reputation of less than 61
• You have not more than 500 HP in their accounts before they power up - both on the first of the month

OR

If your account is new and you haven’t had the RCs to post more frequently, you must meet at least these criteria:

• there must be an introductory post of at least 200 words, but preferably more posts (also of 200 or more words, that are not about gaming or Actifit)
• the account should have either powered up what it can on the first of the month, or had help to power up.

What you stand to win

Between four of us, three deserving recipients now get

a total delegation of 400HP for three weeks (21 days)

May Power Up Day - no delegations

This month, without a "proper" announcement and advance warning of #hivepud, participation was low. That said, we did have some takers, but none of them met our criteria. Another word to the wise: if there is evidence in the account's wallet that you're not focusing building your account (HODLing), we will think twice before selecting that account for delegations.
