Mie Goyang, Is It The Copy Of The Infamous And Beloved Mie Gacoan? Full Rants About Mie Goyang Here

Hello my dear friends…
Have you ever go somewhere and thinking, “wait a minute, this place is familiar”. Its familiar yet not exactly the same place as the place you have in your memory. You’re getting a bit confused and there will be a lot of questions coming flow to your mind. Is it a bit dramatic? Well, thats kinda what happened to me last weekend. I am a big fan of Mie Gacoan, at this point if you’re living in Indonesia you must be familiar with Mie Gacoan as it was so famous. When i said that i am a big fan, its not an understatement because i am at the border of being obsessed with their mie (noodle). The taste of their Mie Iblis (one of their noodle variant) is right up to my ally. I usually ate them when i was in Bali, its not a lie if i said its one of the main reason why i love Bali so much as they dont have Mie Gacoan in my city before. Few months before i moved out from my city, they decided to opened a branch there and i was torn between the happy and disappointment feeling. I am happy because finally my siblings and my friends able to eat a food i am so in love with and what is the best way to loving a food other than to loving it together with your loved one. The disappointment that i feel none other because they just opened it right before i leave the city. In the city i live now, there is no Mie Gacoan. I thought that Mie Gacoan will be “holiday food” again for me until i saw this copy of Mie Gacoan.

I was strolling around in the area with my husband in one lovely evening till we passed something that felt so familiar yet quite different, you know, the feeling I expressed in my first paragraph. Since i am obsessed with Mie Gacoan, i am truly curious with what is this Mie Goyang that has the same feeling with Mie Gacoan about. I have few theories in my mind, which is:

  • Its a copy. Its pure copy. The owner seen the success of Mie Gacoan in all over Indonesia and they somehow wants to deliver something similar with it but doesnt want to pay for the franchise so they just make everything similar with it and make their own.

  • Its a sister brand. The owner bought a franchise license, recipe license, or whatever from Mie Gacoan but as it was hard to open Mie Gacoan because of the “halal”-ness debate over it they decided to change a bit to make it more acceptable in this area.

Some conspiracy i have there, lol. The only way to know what is the real one is to go and eat in the place. I think that i might talked about Mie Gacoan several times so i will skip over the detailed explanation of the taste.

The Place

Its so similar with Mie Gacoan, if you’re familiar with Mie Gacoan you will know immediately. The signature of combination between pink and blue in the name sign of Mie Gacoan. The similarities not only in the name sign, its also in the table and chair, and the overall design if the place. Everything will reminds you of Mie Gacoan without doubt.

The Menu

Everything, from the main course, snacks, and drinks, its all the same. If only i have the menu of Mie Gacoan and show them side by side it will be funny because we will see no difference. I understand about the name since they at least try to change it, i dont understand they copied the name of the menu. Maybe the only difference is the spice level of each menu. Mie Gacoan have 0-8 level while they only have 1-5 level.

The Food

  • Mie Iblis Noodle
I ordered two Mie Iblis level 1 for my husband and level 4 for me. While i usually be in level 6 in Mie Gacoan, i want to play it safe and just ordered the level 4 in Mie Goyang because i want to understand the spiciness level that they have in here. I dont know about the level 1 since i didnt try them at all, but the pverall taste if the Mie Iblis that they have in Mie Goyang quite similar with Mie Gacoan. The most striking difference that we can taste immediately since the first bite is the noodle that they use. Eventhough it looks quite similar but we cant fool the tongue, it knows which one have better quality especially since i taste Mie Gacoan numerous time in my life. The noodle that they have here taste like it boughts in the market randomly. It taste basic.

  • Ice Tea
Well, ice tea will taste similar everywhere and its not the specialty from both restaurants so i cant tell nor talk much about it.

  • Snacks
I ordered both Siomay Udang (Shrimp dumpling) and Udang Keju (Shrimp cheese). The udang keju are the most famous snacks that they have in Mie Gacoan and that was why i decided to try their version of Udang keju too. Well, it can be seen in the pictures i attached about the condition, i dont even have to go to explain the taste because the picture must already explain them all. The snacks looks like it was heated again and again fee times till the taste is unexplainable. J cant even stomach one of them.

The Bill

This is what we have to pay for two people. Its so affordable as they have the same price as Mie Gacoan too.

Conclusion

Overall, the Mie Goyang is an okay copy of Mie Gacoan especially since we dont have an original Mie Gacoan in the city. When i feel like craving Mie Gacoan, i will come and visit this place again for sure, just remember to not order any of their snacks.

A must try especially if you like spicy food bli. They have a lot of branches in Bali, maybe if you visit one nearby. And i think the price are what makes them so popular
