The day I (almost) got a pizza named after me!

The pizza blood runs into my veins. Ever since I can remember pizza has been a part of my life: My father had a pizza oven in every house that we lived, and it was a common picture in my memory everybody going to my house and eat pizza. Later in life my father opened a Pizza Place, but that's a story for another day.

This one is about a small pizza place that got really big because of me and my friends, and how I almost got a pizza named after me.

Back when I was at college, me and my friends would always eat out at night because no one could cook anything (and for lunch we could eat at the university). So after we ate in all the hot-dog places, all the baked potato places and all the pastelarias, we decided to start going around the pizza places. It was our last choice because it was the most expensive one.

Walking around the streets we found this really small pizza place called "Golden Crust" (Borda de Ouro). We looked at the menu and it felt it was a fair price for a pizza. We ordered the basic mozzarella pizza because we didn't have enough money to order anything else. But when the pizza came, it was a special pizza with bacon, palm hearts, tenderloin, catupiry cheese (a special creamy cheese) and champignons (mushrooms).

We said it was wrong, that could not be our order, but the owner (and also the cook), Carlinhos, said that he didn't have any customers for a long time and he was so happy that we were there that he couldn't just do a simple mozzarella pizza. We ate and it was delicious!!! After that, we started going almost every week (and sometimes many times a week) to meet Carlinhos and eat some good pizza.

Of course we told everyone about it and soon enough the place was so packed that Carlinhos had to change locations and went to a bigger place. Every time we went there we always would get some treat as a thanks for helping him become one of the best pizza places from the city. We had a lot of musicians friends so they started doing some shows there.

In one of these nights I got and idea for a pizza flavor: mozzarella, parmesan, blue cheese, provolone, bacon and mushrooms. Everybody loved the ideia and one of our friends went ask Carlinhos to make it for us. The pizza arrived and it was a blast! But after we finished eating Carlinhos came back and said that the pizza would be in the oficial menu, with my friends name!!!

I was so mad! That was my pizza! That was my creation! He just took the opportunity to tell Carlinhos to do it! Of course I complained, but my friend didn't want to admit that it was my ideia! So in the end we shared the name of the pizza: JacaThithos (he was Jacaré and I was Thithola at the time).

It was one of the most ordered pizzas from the place, but unfortunately Carlinhos didn't have a good head to run business: After a while he started to use second (and third) rate ingredients so he could make more money out of it, and also he started drinking too much and in the end he lost the pizza place. He tried again with a new name "Brazil Crust" (Borda Brasil) but at that time I was already leaving college so I didn't got to see what happened later.

This is a great story! I would have fought tooth and nail to get that !PIZZA named after me! It's too bad the place didn't stay open, it sounds like a cool place to hangout with good music and delicious pizza. Perhaps one day you will get to try Borda Brasil and see if he went back to his roots to make wonderful pizza again. Thanks for your entry my friend!

Yep, maybe one day I'll be able to go back there, but from what I heard the place is closed down for good... Carlinhos lost the pizza place to his brother and his ex-wife (yep, you got the ideia right)

But hey, at least I'll always have the good memory of that marvelous !PIZZA !!!

Wow, that's a cool pizza story. U could have opened your pizza shop. Sometimes skills are bullshit without great business idea. I have been taking pizza in my country but it wasn't worth the compliment until I traveled to Dubai, the pizza I took there taste like heaven on earth. I literally ate pizza everyday till I left . Back to my country none of the pizza I told is up to that standard. I love pizza but unfortunately I stopped taking it here.
