The spectrum of Juggling Columns

(Edited)

For most people, juggling is a silly free time activity. After all, you're just throwing balls into the air. Of course you need a little coordination to do that, but there is no mystery in it. Or is there?

One thing that I really liked to do when juggling is to think of the spectrum of each trick. What variations can we do? How many different tricks are there inside that one patter? In the past (and still today) most of the time when someone "creates" a new trick, is by exploring the spectrum of it.

In this post, I selected one of my favorite trick to explore with you all. It's the column patter:

It consists of you throwing one ball with each hand in a parallel movement, to return to the same hand, while another ball travels in the middle. This would be the base pattern of the trick.

Of course there are many of different variations of the columns, here I'll show just a glimpse of this spectrum.

The first one is just to throw the ball around the columns, making an eight movement with the ball in the center:

Right after that, you can isolate the movement of the central ball that it only goes up or down the eight, creating the "W" or "M" figure.

Another good variation of this spectrum is the individual throw of each ball. This is a good base practice to many other tricks, including the columns itself.

One that can go a long way is to throw the ball in a curve over the columns. You can do it all the time, or keep it parallel on the side

And of course, you can throw it around and sending it below the column, creating a "half box"

To finish this glimpse of the spectrum, I want to show you all my favorite variation of the columns pattern: Manipulation and machine:

You just keep one ball in your hand to simulate the column, creating a manipulation effect, then you pass it over the column like a factory machine. It's soooooo much fun!

Well,I apologize for the bad quality gifs, it's my first time doing them and I had zero time to polish the tricks too. I was in a rush so I could enter the WOTW contest hosted by @calumam and with the awesome help of @scholaris.

And if you don't know aboutHive Pizza yet, what are you waiting for??? They just added a Diesel Pool to the token!!! You should definitely check it out!!!

Keep posting and keep shining!

Woah! The last trick got me. Nice joggling there. I've always tried a million times to joggle but each time I try, I end up messing up everything lol. Love your idea of joggling to fit in with spectrum. Good luck in the contest 💞 and hey! those gifs are amazing. !PIZZA

It has to be CGI. No human being can be that coordinate AND guard fire at the same time. Unless...holy crap. You must be other-worldly.
