Carved wooden heart-shaped Earrings [ENG-ESP]

Hello dear friends, I hope you are all doing well. It has been nearly a month since I last posted any of my work, as I was very busy wrapping up the school term; however, thanks to life and the universe, I am back to share with this community of amazing creators. Although I haven't been consistent with posting, I haven't stopped drawing—though I did stop woodcarving for a while, mainly because I had run out of wood. Now that I’ve found some wood again, I want to show you what I’ve made. I crafted a pair of heart-shaped earrings—technically a double heart, with a smaller one inside the larger one—and I’ll briefly show you the process here. I hope you like it.

Hola queridos amigos, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, tenía casi un mes sin publicar algunos de mis trabajos, y es que estuve muy ocupado finalizando las clases en el colegio, pero gracias a la vida y al universo estoy aquí de nuevo para poder compartir con los mejores creadores. Aunque no he sido constante en la publicación de trabajos, no he dejado de dibujar, por el contrario si había dejado de tallar madera, y la principal razón es que ya no tenía madera, ahora que he encontrado madera nuevamente quiero mostrarles lo que hice. He realizado un par de pendientes con forma de corazón, el cual realmente es un corazón doble ya que tiene uno más pequeño en el centro, aquí les mostraré brevemente como lo hice, espero que les guste.

The wood I used has a reddish tone, though it isn't uniform; in some areas, it tends to be white, while in others it turns reddish—a strange contrast, but one I like. I shaped the heart to be 2.5 centimeters; I kept it small to ensure the size was just right. The technique I use is very simple: I start from the center of the piece to prevent the wood from cracking or getting damaged.

Esta madera que utilicé es de un tono rojo, sin embargo no es uniforme, en algunas partes tiende a ser blanca mientras que otras partes se vuelve rojiza, es un contraste extraño pero me gusta. Aquí hice la figura del corazón de 2,5 centímetros, no lo hice muy grande para que el tamaño fuera el adecuado. La técnica que utilizo es muy simple, se trata de comenzar desde el centro de la pieza para que la madera no se agriete y se dañe.

As I mentioned earlier, I begin with the central part of the design—specifically, by removing wood to shape the small heart located in the center of the piece. To do this, I use blades with very fine edges, particularly for making the heart-shaped cut, and then I switch to a different one to remove the wood. By alternating between blades with different cutting edges, I gradually remove the material.

Como les había mencionado anteriormente, comienzo en la parte central del dibujo, es decir, quitando la madera para darle forma al pequeño corazón que se encuentra en el centro de la pieza. Para hacerlo utilizo cuchillas con hojas muy finas, especialmente para hacer el corte con la forma del corazón, luego para extraer la madera utilizo otra diferente. Así alternando entre una hoja y otra con diferente filo es que voy extrayendo la madera.

After shaping the interior of the piece, I move on to shaping the edges to bring out the heart form. Unlike the previous cuts, here I use a knife with a thicker blade to remove the excess wood more quickly. Once that is done, I begin to round off the shape by trimming the corners, and to achieve a better finish, I use sandpaper to polish the entire surface.

Seguidamente al terminar de darle forma al interior de la pieza comienzo a darle forma también a los bordes para que la pieza en forma de corazón aparezca. Al contrario de los cortes anteriores, aquí utilizo una navaja con la hoja más gruesa para así retirar más rápido todo el excedente de la Madera. Una vez terminado esto comienzo a darle forma circular quitando un poco las esquinas y para darle un mejor acabado utilizo una lija con la cual se puede pulir toda la superficie.

Now, in the next step, I begin making the second piece to complete the earrings. I use the first finished piece as a template to trace the double heart onto the wood, and—following the same procedure as before—I start shaping the center of the piece.

Ahora en el siguiente paso comienzo a hacer la segunda pieza para completar los pendientes. Utilizo la primera pieza finalizada como molde y trazo en la madera el corazón doble y con el mismo procedimiento anterior comienzo a dar forma al centro de la pieza.

After completing the previous steps, I have finished the second piece; as you can see, both are the same size. The final step is to attach a small metal jump ring to serve as the earring finding. To give it a beautiful, glossy finish, I use a high-quality, quick-drying clear gloss spray. The best result is achieved by applying three coats and allowing ten minutes of drying time between each one; this completes the process.

Luego de pasar por todo el proceso anterior he completado la segunda pieza, como pueden observar ambas quedaron de igual tamaño. El último paso ya sería colocar una pequeña argolla de metal que sirva para el arete. Para darle un acabado más hermosos y brillante utilizo barniz brillante en spray, de secado rápido y de muy buena calidad. El acabado más perfecto se logra poniendo 3 capas y dejando secar 10 minutos entre cada capa para lograr el mejor acabado brillante, de esta manera ha quedado finalizado.

What do you think of the result? As I mentioned at the beginning, this wood has a reddish tone that becomes lighter in some areas; after applying the coats of varnish, you can really see that look I was talking about—especially the red color, which becomes more vibrant. It was great to post again; I truly feel blessed to be back and able to share the things I love most. I wish everyone good health and hope to be back very soon.

¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? como les comenté al inicio esta madera es de un tono rojizo que en algunas partes se vuelve más clara, luego de aplicar las capas de barniz se puede apreciar ese aspecto que les comento, especialmente ese color rojo que cobra más fuerza. Fue grandioso volver a publicar, de verdad me siento bendecido de volver y poder compartir las cosas que más me gustan. Deseo salud para todos y espero volver muy pronto.
