[ENG-ESP] MERLINA (Wednesday) Portrait on Black Paper

Hello dear friends, I hope you are all very well. I was browsing instagram for days until a video caught my attention: a young girl was doing a very strange dance but one that seemed familiar to me. Investigating more I was able to find out that it was the character of Merlina Adams adapted to a new series, I really had no knowledge of this, as well as many new things, I am never very aware until after a long time passes. I liked the video, his way of dancing was very interesting as it reminded me of the late singer of Ian Curtis's Joy Division, further investigation also turns up that Tim Burton is behind the creation of this character so I can imagine the influences he has, like the gothic post-punk of the 80s. So I wanted to make a drawing, using black cardboard as a background, I hope you like it!

Hola queridos amigos, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien. Estuve hace días navengando por instagram hasta un videom llamó mi atención: una jovencita se encontraba haciendo un baile muy extraño pero que me resultaba familiar. El invetsigar más pude saber que se trataba del personaje de Merlina Adams adaptado a una nueva serie, realmente no tenía conocimiento de esto, así como de muchas cosas nuevas, nunca estoy muy al tanto sino cuando ya pasa mucho tiempo. Me gustó el video, su forma de bailar era muy interesante ya que me recordó al fallecido cantante de Joy Division de Ian Curtis, invetsigando más también sube que Tim Burton está detrás de la creación de este personaje así que puedo imaginar las influencias que tiene, como el post-punk gótico de los 80. Quise hacer entonces un dibujo, utilizando cartulina negra como fondo, espero que les guste!

PROCESS

To start my drawing I was in trouble since my white colors have been finished little by little, so I have used the last remains that I have left, I think that with the passing of time they are the colors that I have used the most. So I started a sketch of the whole drawing with a white color of my daughter, I think it won't bother her hehe, to be able to make the line very light, the school colors do not have such strong or creamy pigments so they are easy to erase.

Para comenzar mi dibujo estuve en aprietos ya que mis colores blancos se han ido terminado poco a poco, así que he utilizado los últimos restos que me quedan, creo que con el pasar del tiempo son los colores que más he utilizado. Así que comencé un boceto de todo el dibujo con un color blanco de mi hija, creo que no le molestará jeje, para poder hacer el trazo muy tenue, los colores escolares no tienen pigmentos tan fuertes ni cremosos así que es son fáciles de borrar.

Next I began to shape the inside of the face, in this case I started from the lips using a brick red color, which is a tone that goes from dark red to a little brown and with white I give shine to the lips . In this way I am also doing the eyes that, although they remain in an immobile look, express too much and I also fill the first layer with white color for the skin of the face.

Seguidamente comence a darle forma al interior del rostro, en este caso comencé desde los labios utilizando un color rojo ladrillo, que es un tono que va desde el rojo oscuro hasta alcanzar un poco el marrón y con color blanco le voy dando brillo a los labios. Así tambien voy haciendo los ojos que aunque permanecen en una mirada inmovil expresan demasiado y también relleno con color blanco la primera capa para la piel del rostro.

Then, with the little prismacolor color that I have left, I began to paint the skin of the face, first with a soft line in order to cover all the areas, then the second layer was a stronger line, this to give it more volume and also make the illuminated parts and differentiate them from the shadows, in this way you can make all the areas of the face without it being uniform as if it were a cartoon. I also take care of the eyes drawing them carefully and making that reflection of light that they carry on the retina.

Después con el poco color prismacolor que me queda comencé a pintar la piel del rostro, primero con un trazo suave con el propósito de cubrir todas las zonas, luego la segunda capa fue de un trazo más fuerte, esto para darle más volument y también hacer las partes iluminadas y diferenciarlas de las sombras, de esta manera se puede hacer todas las zonas del rostro sin que quede uniforme como si fuera una caricatura. También me ocupo de los ojos dibujandolos cuidadosamente y haciendo ese reflejo de luz que llevan en la retina.

Then I finish with the eyes, trying to achieve that expression that the actress has, bright black eyes, serene but very expressive, as well as with her face, which has various shades that using brown and black I can give shape to make them look in degradation. I also ended up drawing part of her dress, her neck, and the effect of the glitter on her long, dark hair. After reviewing and making final touches, I finished this drawing.

Despues termino con los ojos, tratando de alcanzar esa expresión que tiene la actriz, ojos negros brillantes, serenos pero muy expresivos, así tambien con el rostro, que tiene varias sombras que utilizando el color marrón y el negro puedo darles forma para que se vean en degradación. Tambien termino dibujar parte de su vestido, el cuello, y el efecto del brillo en su larga y oscura cabellera. Luego de revisar y hacer últimos retoques di por finalizado este dibujo.

FINAL WORK

This is how the portrait of Merlina Adams has been finished, I think that after seeing that dance scene I will make plans to see the series and know if it is of good quality, I am generally not very addicted to new series, I do not have the time to watch them for I prefer that to the movies, but I'll give this one a try. Regarding the drawing, I was very satisfied, I really like the black paper to draw, as you can see, the possibilities are many to do great things. Así ha quedado finalizado el retrato de Merlina Adams, creo que después de ver esa escena del baile haré planes para ver la serie y saber si es de buena calidad, generalmente no soy muy adicto a las series nuevas, no tengo el tiempo para verlas por eso prefiero las películas, pero le daré una oportunidad a esta. Por lo que respecta al dibujo quedé muy conforme, me gusta mucho el papel negro para dibujar, como pueden observar, las posibilidades son muchas para hacer cosas geniales. Me despido hasta una nueva oportunidad, que la pasen muy bien!
