Vozinha, the real hero of the World Cup – Fan Art Drawing

Hello to the entire Hive community! Today, I want to share a very special little project with you that combines two of my great passions: art and soccer. I invite you to join me on this step-by-step journey to see the creation process of a piece of fan art dedicated to Vozinha, the goalkeeper for the Cape Verde national team. Following his heroic and unforgettable performance at the World Cup, Vozinha proved that with grit and determination, no giant is invincible—becoming a true symbol of resilience, pride, and inspiration for an entire nation. Below, I present a brief yet fun step-by-step guide using a very simple technique to shape the face of Cape Verde's great hero. Let's get started!

¡Hola a toda la comunidad de Hive! Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un pequeño proyecto muy especial que une dos de mis grandes pasiones: el arte y el fútbol. Los invito a acompañarme en este recorrido paso a paso donde verán todo el proceso de creación de un fan art dedicado a Vozinha, el guardameta de la selección de Cabo Verde. Tras su heroica e inolvidable actuación en el Mundial, Vozinha demostró que con garra y determinación no hay gigante invencible, convirtiéndose en un auténtico símbolo de resistencia, orgullo e inspiración para toda una nación. A continuación les presento un breve pero divertido paso a paso, con una técnica muy sencilla como se pueda dar forma al rostro del gran héroe de Cabo verde, comencemos!

I decided to create this drawing on white cardstock—specifically Opaline, which is excellent for drawings that require blending different materials, particularly ballpoint pen inks. I started by sketching the entire figure with a pencil, and from that point on, I used only a simple ballpoint pen.

Este dibujo decidí hacerlo en cartulina de color blanco, específicamente Opalina, muy buena para hacer dibujos donde se deban mezclar materiales diferente, especialmente tintas como de bolígrafos. Antes de eso comencé haciendo un boceto solamente con lápiz para marcar toda la figura. De ahí en adelante utilizar solo un simple bolígrafo.

For this drawing, I used three different types of pens. The first one has somewhat lighter ink because it has a finer tip, resulting in a narrower ink flow; this gives the stroke a slightly different quality. I use it to build up the initial layer that helps shape Vozinha's face.

Para este dibujo utilicé 3 tipos diferentes de bolígrafos, el primero de ellos es uno de una tinta un poco clara, y esto se debe a que la punta es más fina por lo que la salida de tinta es más estrecha, al ser de esta manera el trazo queda algo diferente. Así voy agregando lo que será la primera capa que ayude a darle forma al rostro de Vozinha.

For the next step of the drawing, I use the other pen; its ink is slightly thicker and darker, and I use it to build volume in the face so it doesn't look flat. The tip is different, allowing the ink to flow more freely, which makes it easier to cover more area and add shading. The technique simply involves making irregular, random circular strokes while shaping each part of the face. Here, you can see how parts of the face are becoming more defined.

En el siguiente paso para el dibujo utilizo el otro bolígrafo, este tiene la tinta un poco más espesa y oscura, con este le voy dando volumen al rostro para que no se vea algo plano. La punta es diferente, aquí la tinta fluye un poco más lo que permite cubrir más espacio y agregar más sombras. La técnica es simplemente hacer trazos circulares accidentados sin ningún sentido pero dando forma a cada parte del rostro. Aquí se puede observar como parte del rostro ya se hace más visible.

To finish up, I used the last pen—the one with the darkest ink of all. However, to boost the contrast of the dark color, I used a fine-tip, pen-style marker; with this, I added the final details, and the drawing turned out exactly as I had hoped.

Para finalizar utilicé el ultimo bolígrafo el que tiene la tinta más oscuras de todos. Sin embargo, para aumentar el contraste del color oscuro utilicé un marcarod punta fina estilo pluma, cone ste terminé de dar los mejores detalles y el dibujo quedó tal como deseaba.

What did you think of the drawing? Vozinha—like the entire Cape Verde national team—represents the ideal of heroism to me; they went to the World Cup and played with all their heart. Vozinha was able to fulfill his dream, showing us through his example that it is never too late to pursue the things we are passionate about in life. That is why he is such a great example to me.

¿Qué les ha parecido el dibujo? Vozinha, al igual que toda la selección de Cabo Verde representa para mi el ideal de heroísmo, fueron al mundial y jugaron con todo el corazón. Vozinha pudo cumplir su sueño y nos demostró con su edad que nunca es tarde para cumplir aquellas cosas que apasionan nuestra vida. Por eso para mi representa un gran ejemplo.
