In 1994 Hammer issued the jazz fusion album Drive, percussive and melodic at the same time. In 1995 he wrote the soundtrack for 14 episodes of the television series Vanishing Son, as well as the 1996 films A Modern Affair by Vern Oakley, In the Kingdom of the Blind the Man with One Eye Is King by Nick Vallelonga and Beastmaster III: The Eye of Braxus by Gabrielle Beaumont. In 1996 he wrote the music for The Babysitter’s Seduction, The Secret Agent Club and The Corporate Ladder for the NBC television network. In 1997 he composed the music for the game Outlaw Racers and for the Prince Street series, also for NBC, and six compilation albums of his compositions were released.

In 1999 he wrote the song “Even Odds” for Jeff Beck’s Who Else and The Lost Trident Sessions appeared with tracks that the Mahavishnu Orchestra had recorded before its dissolution. In 2002 the double album Miami Vice: The Complete Collection went on sale. In 2004 Hammer launched The Best of Miami Vice and toured the United Kingdom with Jeff Beck. In 2006 he composed the soundtrack for the documentary Cocaine Cowboys, which shows the painful situation suffered in Miami due to drug dealing in the 1980s. Also in 2006 he joined rapper TQ to record a new version of his song “Crockett’s Theme” from the Miami Vice series.

In 2007 the Enja label released Turtles with a Hammer performance in 1968 at the The Domicile club in Munich (Germany) with Olaf Kübler on tenor sax, George Mraz on double bass and Cees See on drums. In 2014 he wrote the song for the adult cartoon television series Squidbillies by Jim Fortier and Dave Willis. In 2017 he gave a concert with his old friend Jeff Beck that was picked up in Live at the Hollywood Bowl and in 2018 he published pop/rock Seasons, Pt. 1, his first album with new content in over a decade. Jan Hammer has earned a prominent place where modern music meets the visual arts. From the heyday of the Mahavishnu Orchestra to the historic Miami Vice television soundtrack and his postmodern incursions into cinema, he has proven to be a real visionary.
