LOH CONTEST #83 - THE MOST DEVASTATING EVENT IN MY LIFE

I remember her lovely smile and her beautiful voice she would always greet you
"Good evening ma, how was work today? You always look beautiful even with your pregnancy, you need carrot and watermelon so your baby would look beautiful as you" those were her words every time I pass in front of her mother's fruit selling spot. This made me always buy fruit when I need it and when I don't, just to enjoy her small stories and praises she has for me. Come and sit down let me arrange the fruits for you ma, just as I take a sit, she starts to give me the latest story in the neighbourhood.
This was her selling strategy, I guess her mother knew the daughter was the main attraction to her fruit selling business, she was always available and would be the one to negotiate the price with you and her mother agreed to what she said.
She became my young friend and my gist partner on neighbourhood gist. A lot of information I get from her "funny girl". She was 20 years in 2016 and I was pregnant for my first son who became 6year last week Thursday 12th May.

NOBODY KNOWS WHAT TOMORROW WOULD BRING 💔
10th May 2016 I just came out to get some vegetables and to also see my funny friend because I know she always has something to tell me.
"Aunty, you would need pineapple now she said just like I predicted and I asked her, how did you know what I need ? she replied, aunty I know all this fruit pregnant women need and when they need it🤣". Am not a lover of pineapple I don't like it but see me buying pineapple because of the sweet mouth of my dear friend. truly I was due to give birth but the baby was not yet ready to come out and I heard pineapple, in dues labour ok let's take some pineapple and see if it would help my baby to come out. I had already stopped work at 8months of my pregnancy because of the distance to my workplace, swollen feet and my very big stomach. My funny friend made me buy the pineapple 🍍.
Just immediately I left her selling spot, took about 25 steps forward all I heard people screaming " run oh " I didn't wait to look back I ran as fast as I could and when I tried to look back all I saw was a large crown running behind me that made me faster, little did I know my little friend was one of the victims.

Panting and almost fainting I entered my estate on the same express road. People who saw me coming in helped me sit down so I can catch my breath but I became so uncomfortable, nervous, and scared I wanted to know what happen. People were screaming, crying and some thanking God then two men came into the estate to ask for a pregnant woman 🤰 and when they saw me, one said madam God has saved your life and he narrated the story of how the truck driver lost control of his truck and now two persons are dead.
WHO DIED, WHAT HAPPENED, IS IT, SOMEONE, I KNOW?
I had a restless night of discomfort that made me go to the hospital the next day. At about 4:30 am on 12th May 2016 I had my baby boy with no complication but a long story for another day😊.
I heard a lot of stories about the accident, and I asked what about my friend? she was the only one selling on that day I never got to see her till after
4years. still in the same neighbourhood not too far from where the accident happened I heard a young voice
" Good afternoon ma, that voice sounded so familiar when I looked closer it was my funny friend the fruit seller with one arm 💪 that brought back a flashback to the accident and I wept so hard, she cried and said "Aunty just as you left I took the money you gave me about to cross the express road to buy roasted corn that was the last thing I remembered" those words became my pain and I ask myself what if I was still at that spot? What if?
HOW I COPED
It's been 6years in the same month of May 2022 and this memory got me thankful for my life, my son and her life with one arm, God knows best.
We are all alive to tell the story and when people in the neighbourhood see me they call me a lucky woman.
No one knows tomorrow, life happens to bring us joy and sadness may we be strong to take the things of life.
