THE RISK I TOOK TO BECOME THE BEST
Growing up as kids my parents made sure we went to a very good school to enable us to fit into the development of the world and the people around us.
I was in primary 2 when my father took me to a big school owned by a steel company in Delta state. A lot of activities, great teachers, sports, fun times, beautiful learning skills, cultural activities and many more. It's a school for the best of the best, rich kids also attended because their parents knew the school had all the facilities a child needs for learning.
During the Morning assembly, there's always a time to announce the best pupils in academic tests, sports activities, quiz, debates, the best language pupils and many more.
This act made me think and imagine the day I would be called on stage for everyone to see me as the best.
WHAT CAN I DO TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL OF BEING THE BEST?
I couldn't match,
I couldn't sing
I loved debate, but I could talk fast like them.
Then I tried sports, running and jumping I did well but was never the best.
I loved our language teacher he made learning Urhobo language fun and easy.
It made me join the cultural dance group where we sing and dance in different languages.
THE RISK I TOOK TO BECOME THE BEST
In primary 5, We have been practising dancing and singing in different languages. When we received an invitation that a great king from the iteskiri kingdom was coming to town and they need the best dancers to welcome him, for he would support the school and make a great mark for all to see.
This was it, my dream come through. We had an intense practice, to pick the best dancers "I danced the dance of my life" I was picked to join the 10 dancers but the last criteria to join the dancers was if you lived around the school so it would be easy to drop you off after they finish at night. I lived very far from the school.
Did I join them? YES I DID
I was so lucky that they only asked and never bothered to find out if we lived around or not.
I danced and danced, I gave the community my best dance. I was rewarded by high chiefs and the people that came to welcome the king. The King gave my school a cash reward and personally appoint his priest to pay my school fees for the next term. It was signed and sealed.
TIME TO GO HOME
Still dressed like a dancer I realized that there was no one to take me home but as faith may have it I recognised a woman from my church that came to see the king that was how I told her who I was and she made arrangment to take me home. Meanwhile, my parents asked the driver to pick my brothers and I from school only for them to tell him that I went to represent the school in a dance.
My father was very angry and worried about how I would get home. When he was about to go out that night in search of me in ran into the house.
My father followed me to school the next day and he was told how I made the school proud and I was also rewarded.
The headmistress announced my name at the assembly ground to represent the dancers and show the reward for the school.
I also repeated the same dance when I was serving my country as a corper NYSC and we won the competition.
This meant a lot to me to NEVER GIVE UP more push and hard work to bring out the best in you.

That was a very big risk you took but I guess it's not different from what some of us did as kids back then 😆 but at least the good thing was that your efforts paid off, your father won't be too angry when he hears that the next term school fees will be taken care of by the king
A very big risk I took, I needed to be good at something so I took the risk and had faith to be the best.
When I got home that night my father was very angry, he was shouting that he would deal with the school authorities, he said a lot but when the headmistress told he about the reward my father countenance changed, the headmistress asked him to wait for the announcement and for him to see for himself. I felt like a heroine. Risk, faith and hard work.

🤣 yes dear, I danced the dance of my life just to be amongst the top 10.
My father didn't show how proud he was but for the fact that he never raised the issue again I knew he was happy.
Determination has announce you not only to your school but to the king, you really make your parents proud dear.
Things we do as kids has paid off for me, high risk I took just to be the best at what I do.

Wow!! You don't look like someone who dances o. I learnt a lot through this story. Always go for what you can do. No one is useless, the reason why many people are stuck where they are today is because they refused to try again. They gave up on life too quickly as soon as they see discouragements.
I love it when you said, you scanned through almost all the activities being done in your school and you didn't find your match but you refused to give up, probably because of your vision and you continued searching until you came upon cultural activities, which later brought your dream to reality. Instead of us to keep wishing and envying others it is better we find what we are good at and build the skills.
Am glad my story inspired you and gave you an insight of life. I can't do it, is not am option. Everyone has that one thing they are good at, being the best at it can take you to the next level.

Life and living itself is a risk to some extent. I understand the need to take that risk and it was worth it at the end of the day. But I need to up my dancing skills, will you help me out
