All works and no play makes one a dullard. Clamoring for more time apart from work

After a while, just staying alive becomes a full-time job. No wonder we need a holiday. ― Michael Zadoorian

While growing up, I saw many people with different job rotations and this made me push some jobs aside, as a no-go area for me. I have always loved to be a banker but seeing the other side of how busy they are here in Nigeria I don't know about other countries. They are extremely too busy.

My cousin leaves home at 4.30 am to beat the traffic and get to work by 7 am and also comes home late in the night, Monday to Friday. On Saturday, she has to go too to balance up for the week. She is left with only the Sunday and we know how Sunday is for the Christians with some other activities. No break, no holiday except two weeks annual leave for a whole year🤔 Working like a marathon for a year and just 10 days off for holiday aside from the general public holidays.

As a worker, there are several moments in life when I believe workers deserve more free days. The only set of workers that has more holidays are the teachers because giving the students holidays like termly holidays also provides the teachers the need to rest and relax before school resumes back again.
Kudos to the Lagos State government in Nigeria which gave one one-week midterm break for both teachers and students, making it the first half of the term.

Thinking about female officers in all sectors giving birth and coming back to work after a month is bad, then our able governor decided to make it six months of maternity leave for a female officer and ten days of paternity leave for a male officer. While it's true that we already have a good number of holidays, we still clamor for more holidays. Advocating for other workers👌

Aside from the general public holidays like the Easter holiday, Christmas holiday, Eid filtri, Eid Kabir, Worker's Day, and New Year's are declared publicly and this affects all workers. We can still have some other holidays like a cultural day. Many workers belong to diverse cultural backgrounds, and granting additional time off for major cultural festivals or events would allow them to connect with their traditions. This is coming back in the private primary and secondary schools in Nigeria where they celebrate World Cultural Day the students are dressed in their nativity attire with their native food. Very interesting to watch.

As a worker, we are advocating for the mental health holiday People are going through a lot for example the hike in prices over everything including transportation, while this is affecting the majority health-wise. Some are drained to the extreme, all money spent on transportation. Too bad! The government decides to relieve some workers of two days off from work just to ease the transportation stress palava. A day can be made general to focus on workers well well-being, self-care, stress-free from work, relaxation, emotional stability, and overall well-being at large. It is important!

Allowing workers to take a day or two to celebrate or spend quality time with family and loved ones would foster a better work-life balance. I remember some months ago when my husband and I had two weeks of seminar and training. We were not in the life of our children for those weeks and it cost us missing so much in their lives. So many things went wrong during that period. Imagine what could have happened if we worked 24 hours round the clock all the time.

Some private organizations can not give a day off to their workers because they claim, it will affect their productivity, it will affect their business operations but they have forgotten to strike a balance between employee well-being and work-life can increase productivity, morale, and job satisfaction. Some organizations will deduct your salary even if you are sick. That's why the majority still go to work after a doctor's report, you need bed rest🤔🤔

As a teacher, waking up at 4.30 am to meet up at 7.00am in the school compound and to close 5.00pm for three months nonstop is not a joke. We are on two weeks' holiday now at least before resumption, so we would have more time to relax very well, have enough time for family and Friends, and more time for exercise and stress management. But we want more holidays😉😉

I agree when you say that a few workdays can improve productivity, but it's a pity that employers don't think this way. Studies have proven that when people are psychologically healthy, they produce more, and it's no coincidence that many big companies like Google and similar ones develop a lighter environment for their employees. Unfortunately, not all companies think this way, and the result is that large companies stand out in the market because they excel in all aspects, including the mental health of their employees!

You are very right on this but if employers without greed or after their loss can just make a rotational off day for their workers, the results can be massive.

Thanks for this beautiful contribution, you are loved😍

Even workaholics need rest. You need a break once in a while, and likewise when you're not a break, always find some time to cool off.

That's sad that some still think like this. I don't think having a day off is related to productivity anyways that's mostly an individual thing. I think it's up to the person whether they are willing to put the efforts or not and if they are not in a good state then they probably don't have the mood to put in that effort.

Enjoy your holidays O.O. You would love malaysia a lot of school holidays.

The reason why I detest some organizations like that. There was a time I worked with a private firm, the office assistant was sick and he took 2 days from the management.

His two days off were deducted from his salary and the guy in question was so angry that he had to quit. After getting permission from the management. They don't just value your health.

Thanks for the contribution 💕

O.O yea the only thing we can do is not join them and if others dont then they have to change to treat their employees better.

It's good though that he quit he's probably in better hands now!

You're welcome ;3

I Commend the Lagos state government for granting both maternity and paternity leave to it's officers. Every worker needs to have a time off from work to rest, rejuvenate and spend time with family.

Yes, they did well in that aspect and as a result of that, more states are joining in.
