Hello My Dear Little Witches...!

I have several days seeing what I thought was a black wasp in some plants of my garden, however, today looking at it with more detail, I realized that it does not have a sting, as a wasp would have, so I dedicated myself to take some photographs, they were not many since this little one did not have the patience for me, and looking for information about it I found that it is a fly, a Black Soldier Fly.

The Hermetia Illucens as its scientific name is, does not stop surprising me, because besides its enormous size, since it can get to measure 2 centimeters (almost 1 inch), it is considered by some the food of the future, since there are people who consume and foment the consumption of the larvae and pupae of this fly (I believe that never it would eat something thus), Moreover, this little friend is ideal for making compost, because the consumption of waste of this fly is really amazing, besides that they consume all kinds of food waste, even prevent the larvae and eggs of the common fly, which on the contrary generate diseases.

The larvae of these flies serve as food for chickens and cultivated fish, which represents a benefit to the economy of some poultry and fish farmers, even talking about the processed fat product of the pupae of this fly can be used as biodiesel, and what is left after this process is also used as animal feed. The females in their adult stage can reach up to 500 eggs, which represents a good amount if we are using it to accelerate the decomposition processes of the compost.

As I told you before, I had never seen this fly, so I assume that I brought some larvae of this one in a compost that an old friend of my father gave me about 5 weeks ago since more or less the time it takes them to pass from eggs to the adult stage is about 45 days, I added to the plants that I have recently transplanted part of this compost and I think that the result has been this new discovery for me. Showing me once again how wonderful and amazing nature is.

This fly-in its adult state that lasts between 5 to 8 days, a period in which it has to take advantage to mate and to put its eggs, feeds on the nectar of the flowers, perhaps for this reason I have seen them near my chili plants that are in full bloom these days. It can be used in worm composting, as the red worm feeds on the feces produced by the larvae of the black soldier fly. I must say that I have been amazed at the uses and benefits that this new little friend brings, and I will always say it, nature does not cease to amaze me every day.

This is my entry for the #amazingnature contest, promoted by my dear @adalger, if you want to know what this is about and join you can go to this link and see all the information. I'm sure you have something amazing to show us too.

Hola Mis Queridos Brujitos...!

So many insects to learn about, they all serve a purpose even when some come with a bad wrap!

Well done with macro photography, showing this one up close.
