 As Nigerians at home and in diaspora mark the independence anniversary of their great nation today,one would question the essence of such a celebration when Nigeria cannot boast of a tangible achievement in all these years. It is very pathetic and an annoying fact that Nigeria,a country that is divinely endowed with diverse natural resources, which,if properly handle would turn it into one of the richest nation in the world is ranked globally as one of the third world countries. Nigeria as heavily blessed as it is, cannot match the developmental level attained by countries who are faraway less endowed with natural resources and potentials than itself. 
  When I consider the present state of Nigeria as a nation,a country laughingly reputed to be the giant of Africa, I can boldly say that the numerous events held across the nation in commemoration of our Independence anniversary is uncalled for. For where is the giant in us when our power supply is still epileptic, where is the glory when at the moment we cannot salvage our dented international reputation, where is our strength when we cannot completely defeat  insecurity, how about unemployment, incessant strike, insurgency and economic hardship that are a major threat to our stability, where is our honour as a giant when we have poor healthcare facilities? 
 We can only celebrate our Independence anniversary gladly when we are able to rid ourselves of our political saviours who prey aggressively on us and our collective resources.
