Don't be the showboater

Don't be the showboater.

Direct from the desk of Dane Williams.

Drawing parallels between the personalities found in my football team and those making money right here on Hive.

Something you might not know about me is that in my spare time, I coach a football team.

While I love the tactical side of management, the biggest aspect of the job revolves around man management.

Meaning figuring out how to keep all the different personality types happy and motivated enough to win football matches as a team.

Let me share my thoughts about two particular lads in the team and how their personality traits translate directly to those who make up the LeoFinance community here on Hive.

By grasping the analogy, you will hopefully be able to identify which personality type you are and which will ultimately make more money blogging on Hive.

Personality type 1: The selfish showboater

The first of the young lads in my team is an extremely technical, individually skilful player.

I’m talking about the way he can skin a defender with a step over, receive a pass with a back-heel and shoot a ball with viscous dip.

He has the latest release Nike football boots and warms up in a different club’s brand spanking new replica kit each week.

Individually, he is head and shoulders above his peers as the best and most knowledgeable player in the team.

He’s there to look good.

Something he does very, VERY well.

The kid is head and shoulders above when it comes to being the best player on the team.

But…

Does he add maximum value where it really matters by helping the team to win football matches?

No.

He shows up to training once every 3 weeks (if we’re lucky) and gets skinned 9 times out of 10 when the team needs him to take responsibility and step up.

As the coach, I just can’t trust him.

Personality type 2: The selfless club man

Meanwhile, there’s a second lad in the group who certainly doesn’t give a fuck how he’s dressed, let alone what trick shots he can do.

He shows up to training every single week and constantly asks questions on how he could have played different in-game scenarios just that little bit better.

The lad is hungry for the type of success that matters - Success as a team.

EVERYTHING he does is for the betterment of the team and it shows in how the rest of the group perceives him.

When the team needs someone to take responsibility and step up in those same high-pressure situations, do you know who we all want to be there?

It’s a no brainer.

The rest of the lads know they can rely on him because he shows up and gets shit done.

I would trust the lad with my life and I’m not even talking about in a football sense anymore!

Which personality type will make more money blogging on Hive?

When it comes to blogging on Hive, we see our community made up of these exact two personality types found in my football side.

The technically gifted showboaters who have all the intellectual tools at their disposal to create the type of golden content that gets a Web3 blogger paid.

They should be making BANK.

But if they are here for themselves, not showing up every day to actually add value to the community as a whole, then why would those with stake reward them?

And they don’t.

We see it every day with people complaining about not getting what they deserve to be paid on a post.

Their content is usually top quality.

But they’re here to leech maximum value for themselves, not provide value to the community as a whole.

Their behaviour is akin to doing virtual step overs on the way to the best individual goal of the game…

…but ultimately losing 3-1 because you don’t want to defend.

Useless where it really matters so therefore not worth the time, attention and salary they're paid.

The bottom line is that if you want to make money blogging on Hive, don’t be the showboater who knows it all and contributes nothing to the team.

Be the selfless club man who shows up every day, grinds his arse off and ultimately adds as much value to the community as he extracts in payments.

This is how you make money on Hive.

Best of probabilities to you.

This reminds me Of Eden Hazard at Real Madrid, he felt he could slot in because he was talented, now look at his career, he just wasn't enough value for the team as a whole.
Well, I guess I'm the type who comes in everyday to grind.

Where is he now ?
Since he was gone from Chelsea they won top UEFA league.
I think he was hurt too right ?

Hive is close to what work is but if you enjoy it it is more a second home.

Well he's still in Madrid, I just feel that he never put in the work at Madrid considering the fact that he was technically gifted and felt he could cement a spot automatically at Madrid.

Haha, hazard went to Madrid to gain weight and lose his abilities. It really hurts me that he's not succeeding in Madrid even as a Chelsea fan.

Love the example you made, I recall him saying he'd give his beat to the team during their tour in Madrid after winning 2022 UCL.

Good example!

Then compare him to a player at the club like say Casemiro.

No way does he have the skillset that Hazard has, but he's soooooooo much more important to the team.

The great analogy between hive and football. In both of them, being a team player is much more important than anything else. You get paid a lot more if you pay it forward. 🚀

Btw, a football coach? That must have been tough and cool at the same time. 🙈 How do you handle the selfish behavior within the team?

As the coach you can only do so much with these types of personalities and need to rely on some of the stronger personalities in the team itself to get the message of what's expected across to them.

Peer pressure is the best pressure ;)

Hive will always take care of the ones who showed up and bring value by holding and posting.

It’s tough everywhere.
There is so much to do in the blockchain before you can think of complaining.
Personally I find joy to continue learning and hopefully I will make it.

Do right by the community as a whole and over the long run, you will have much more personal success than if you just leeched value for yourself.

Keep doing what you're doing!

I really liked this read. This is my first time seeing one of your posts (somehow). Just discovered you because you liked one of my tweets.

I love this comparison you made. For one, I’m hyped for the World Cup & secondly I love Hive. I have something to add.

I think there are some who manage to blend both of these personality types into one. For instance I love to create something aesthetically pleasing and flashy, but if it doesn’t also help someone else out… what is the point?

I played football back in the day and although I was elected captain, I surely didn’t want the C at the time because I felt my teammates would begin to hate me for having yet another reason to stand out. Luckily I ended up learning that the captain role isn’t quite as important as I imagined. I still wore the same jersey and I was just as happy to add another assist to my stats as I was a nice juicy goal.

I like the way you do your posts. Consider and easy to read through, yet still informative. The simplicity and consistency of your thumbnails is also something I really like. You have yourself a new follower mate.

Hey mate,

I'm certainly guilty of getting stuck in the little LeoFinance bubble, only interacting on content posted through our front-end.

Always good to poke my head out and see what's going on in the greater world of Hive every now and then haha.

Your football and leadership experience is a good take.

Most people think that leading (especially in football) means telling people what to do and standing out.

But there are so many different ways to lead and most often the types that bring out the best in your team are the things you do rather than say.

Thanks for the kind words on my writing, I'll see you around :)

I remember having an discussion with one of the Hive whales about what it means to be altruistic.

He was suggesting that to vote for others and to launch the community was altruistic. I disagree, that's like saying providing good customer service is altruistic.

Building and working on a community that one is invested in is just smart and frankly the right thing to do.

I'd argue that there are elements of both at play here.

If the community succeeds, then you're doing the right thing.

Bu you'll also likely be rewarded higher as a result.

Doing the right thing, not being a prick and helping people is certainly the right thing to do.

But it is also a smart business decision in the community ownership model we have here in Web3.

Well it's the leeching and greed part that destroys your system. That's why you all are out of touch with with concepts like ubi and guaranteed income although it's the only way we can go in the future due to automation, global warming, advances in ai, food shortages, pestilence and lack of conscious awareness

So the greed stems from a misunderstanding that our form of capitalism will work in the 21st century when something that worked in the 20th century is outdated and not equipped for the 21st century.

So it's really a high degree of ignorance as to say even billionaires don't want such a system because a neofeudalist system is not a prosperous economic system. It's in reality a self destructive system as much like we have no buyers for our markets now . You're not going to have any buyers in the future because nobody wil lhave any resources a clear indication of why the very said system is not working

So why don't people get it and think it's altrusim and not just common sense? Well for the same reasons a whale on hive would think it's prudent to self vote and line their pockets and take all they can from a system that can't even economically balance itself with enough prosperity to have a middle group of invididuals that can be the economic engine of the chain.

So often times the whales on hive are like dumb people with money who one day won't have any money

An argument could be made that Hive actually offers a sustainable form of UBI.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

hmmm..certain modifications in the reward system it could be a sustainable system which is really what the creator of the system wanted it to be Dan Larimer.

He created something called "uri" or the universal resource inheritance system which would use the chain's inflation to pay out funds

unfortunatley our current leadership thinks they know better than the founders and what they have created is what i call a revolving door. meaning as many people that come in here go out because the reality of the system as it exist today isn't sustainable which is why you have a dual economy here no middle group.. you just got a few dominate whales that dominate everything and so it's not going to be a prosperous economy.

Also participation and posting is corelational to the price of the coin so due to the overall lack of sustainability what you'll have is constantly a low amount of accounts. So your growth is in danger.

A sustainable ubi system yes would get you mass adoption but because your whales aren't very knowledgable people. In other words they aren't like Ned Scott and Dan Larimer who were a perfect combination of development and business sense. They are typically uneducated devs in a easy to develop system. As to say hive is composed of the lease talented developers in all of blockchain history.

that is because hive is alot easier to build on than other chains. So not only do we have people with no business or marketing skills leading the chain and we can't get new people in because of a lack of incentive. We also have the worse developers of all the chains.. So alot is working against hive.

Now i understand if you're a blogger hive seems great. However the issue is you're assuming bloggers are first buyers.. you're assuming bloggers represent most of the people we need to mass adopt and the blogging is the only thing that i feel is the main pull to hive. i hear oh we're developing great apps. no those apps aren't something on anyones radar and i think splinterlands has hit it's maximum potential

THe best app i've seen that has the best chance of growth and value especially in this economy and the future economy is bitcoin myk but not just based on the ubi portion.. based on the deflationary tokenomics, the advanced ai distribution system and the fact it's a freemium service.

So the only sustainable support levels for bitcoin is at around $4000 which means the money is drying up around here. So we're moving into a phase where we're not going to have the buyers... at best we can establish a stable currency and supply the citizens dividend which is what bitcoin myk can do and hive can't do this.. it's not going to do it because your leadership is too dumb to be honest with you.. so they won't ever get it but the conditions of our economy will force the issue so it won't take any convincing or building of communities people will instinctively begin to choose bitcoin myk simply because they will have no other choice.

I feel so attacked right now. Lol. Not really.

Very well said - those here for the money are not going to be satisfied with their earnings and ultimately will leave.

Those here to provide value will thrive.

But the thing with Web3 communities is that those that provide value will ultimately make more money in the long run.

They are essentially owners in the network and thus by providing value that helps the community, they will increase the value of their own investment too.

Having a daily commenting strategy on Hive will not only help the community, but will help you as well.

This is the beauty of a Web3 community where you are essentially an owner in the network itself.

You're lifting your own balance up alongside the community as a whole.

besides less success over all, the showboater doesn't really have a path to happiness. Especially with in the team. Life is better when you are good to people and they know you they can rely on you. That means they want or at least need you around. Getting involved on your team or in your favorite community on hive will bring you the most joy and probably the better returns

Oh Rangers have had their fair share to be honest, however they tend not to last long! The Ibrox crowd takes no prisoners and Craig Moore was a honest and awesome player. The sort you want in your squad and in the team. Not the best, but trained well and had a heart of a lion. He played for the badge and gave his all every match, he typifies what you want on your team or in your community!
It is interesting and I have to say it is the native English speakers that seem to get it.
