A matter of minutes

Depending on its size, you can walk across an island in a matter of hours, days or even years. In this case though, it was a matter of minutes. And although this is one of the smallest islands, I have set foot on, it is by no means tedious. How could it be when it is adorned by a two hundreds years old stone built tower and one of the oldest lighthouses in Greece!

A decaying club that seems abandoned for years, was the first thing to see once I crossed the pier that connects Gythio with Cranae. And yes, it is not only an absolutely tiny island but you can also reach it by walking on a pathway that was built in 1898, connecting it with the mainland!
The old boats left on the seaside, added to a charming feeling of negligence and stillness while the town is so close that you forget that you are on an island!

All too soon the Tzannetakis Tower emerged from the pine trees, all impressive and beautifully lit by the evening light.

And a few more steps away, the 23 meters high lighthouse, also impressive and beautiful!

Walking on this islet was almost surreal. The proximity with the town, the stone built landmarks, the amazing clouds, even the tiny flowers under the trees, they all contributed to a feeling truly extraordinary!

And before I realise it, I had make a full circle and I was back at the tower. Not much of a walk but absolutely lovely!

This is an approximation to heaven. A beautiful place that you can walk through in minutes... But then, we could walk there over and over again, to prolong the feeling :)
