A wonderful resort

_MG_2961.jpg

We were hiking for three hours to get here. Three hours under the hot Mediterranean sun, going uphill on a steep and craggy mountain. One of the many that Crete has to offer! Some people would call it a torture.

We called it Sunday funday :)

A brake was in order though. Especially since we had two more hours of walking until we reach our destination. There is a ludicrous amount of chapels in the Greek countryside but when you are hiking they are always, always a good spot to rest!

After some snacks and a nice rest, we left behind the hospitable chapel and continued our route in the wildness of the mountain.

Google maps claim that the route from the parking lot next to the beach at Koutsouras that we all meet at seven o'clock in the morning, till the mountainous village "Orino" at 650 meters (around 2.130 feet) altitude that we arrived after noon, is 2,5 hours. I don't know if this is actually the average time for this hike but we did the double and I would say, we probably enjoyed it the double :)

If you notice the picture above you'll see the barriers of the mountain roadway. The first sign of civilisation that meant that we were close to the village and the end of our hike!

Crossing the village was quick. It is a small village anyway and we weren't in the mood for wandering in it's scenic streets, not that day. Our objective was very different. It had tables, chairs, food and drinks and a lovely reassuring sign over its door :)

"καφενείον" means "coffee shop" but in the villages it is also the tavern, the restaurant, the bar and anything else you might need.

And a wonderful resort for tired and hungry hikers :)

This happened on Sunday 13 May 2018 when I was still living, all year round, at Crete. You can read the first post that I wrote for that day here and see a few more pictures here.

The camera that I used is a Canon EOS 7D with an EF-S 15-85mm lens attached. I edited the photographs in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic

All the pictures and the words are mine.

Thank you for reading and if you want to know more about me you can check out my introduction post.

Commenting, upvoting and rebloging are highly appreciated!

What a beautiful place. The landscapes are amazing. You can sense in the photos the intensity of the sun and how strenuous the route is.

I grew up in a rural area and the amusement park we had was exactly like the one in your photo, in fact it still exists and they are very similar.

Thank you for letting us know those beautiful and far away places.

Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it :)

Interesting that the scenery resembles to Cuba. I would expect much different flora!

I can't make out what kind of trees adorn your landscape. I think I see some pine trees, which are also very abundant where I grew up, but the vegetation and even the relief are different from those in Cuba. But that little playground is very similar to the one I grew up in, the grass on the lawn, the surrounding greenery and the equipment are almost the same.

Oh, the playground in the village! Now I get you. I guess that there are many like that all over the world :)

Wondered where you were out there.

And look. My goodness it is beautiful! 👀

I'd even consider getting married again if I could in that chapel :D

Lovey day out. You must have felt really great after that adventure!

Mountainous chapels do that, trigger romantic thoughts about weddings under the trees :)

It was a great day indeed!

Actually I just want to live there, please.

That village right there. How far is the ocean?

No you don't!

If you ever come to live in Crete, I have much better places for you. And closer to the sea too :)

The connections in the brain... when I saw the view of the chapel from afar, I thought of Kill Bill Vol.2 ... and I said to myself: I see it in black and white. It's not perhaps the form, but the chapel in such a remote place. I am a fan of Tarantino's movies. And Kill Bill with all its parts, I love it.

Great Sunday!

Kill Bill uh? I wouldn't have though of it but now that you say it, I can see what you mean!

Great movie indeed! One more fan of Tarantino here :)

Have a nice week ahead!
