An irresistible invitation

I used to be employed as photographer for a travel magazine. During the three years that our collaboration lasted, I had the chance to travel to many beautiful places of Greece, many of which I haven't even heard of. It was before I start blogging, I didn't even had a social media account back then. So the pictures, after they were published to the magazine (and the sites associated with it) they remained in my hard drive, patiently waiting to be seen one more time!

Some of those pictures had their chance in the posts that I am writing here since 2018. But as they are only a fraction of my themes, I still haven't told you about many of the places that I was fortunate enough to visit and photograph!

Gavros in the region of Evrytania in central Greece, is one of those places. As small as it can get, this tiny settlement has practically one road with a few houses on each side. But the location is just breathtaking!

Of course the locals has taken advantage of the natural beauty of their place and most of the houses are restaurants, gift shops or guest houses. Although it used to be a proper village with elementary school and plenty of residents, the truth is that the only reason that it still exists, is the tourist activity.

Nevertheless if you are traveling in the area and you are craving for a warm meal, you are glad it does :)

The buildings are almost hidden by the abundant vegetation. And the singing of the running water, right next to the road, is an irresistible invitation to cross the village's stone-built bridge and go for a walk on the river bank!

You can feel the freshness of these places. I like the first photo very much, it makes you want to go and spend some time there, next to those big mountains... where is it?
The river, the stone houses. Oh, I really like it there.

...I already knew... Gavros in the region of Evrytania in central Greece.

I had not read well, I concentrated too much on the landscape. I dream of going to Greece.

I love places like this that are firmly embedded in the environment they’ve developed from. I can feel the fresh air and smell the aromas of it from your post. I’ve been to a similar place in Italy that was between Verona and the Dolomites as you start to drive up into the mountains. If only I could remember it’s name.

I also used to work as a freelance photographer here in the U.K. for a magazine that focused on farming. They sent me on all sorts of really interesting gigs and not all of them were farming related. One week I was photographing smallholdings for a feature and the next I was in an aircraft hangar that the science museum used to hold their largest exhibits. I miss that kind of stuff. They closed their business after three years, as readership dropped.

It was a nice era, getting payed to travel and see all sorts of interesting things! Usually tiring, if not exhausting but you came back home full of images and experiences :)

Italy must have many amazing places too. I am sorry I never had the chance to explore it properly!

Thank you for stopping by and have a lovely day :)

@fotostef Great trip, bro, of course your job was a few years ago, you are very happy and it doesn't bore you, it's not a job just sitting in one building, you're cool...
After I saw some pictures of clear water in a river full of rocks, have you ever imagined like some of the pictures on your computer wallpaper when you use Windows 7, when the computer screen sleeps several wallpapers will appear, one of which I imagine is water on the rocks, hehe
i just imagined it... 😅

Wow, that bridge is absolutely epic. I am absolutely enamoured with that last long exposed photo with the bridge in the background.

Running water and long exposure are the basic ingredients for an enchanting picture :)
Thank you very much!
