Endless view

Exploring Kythera, inevitably led us to cape Spathi, the northernmost point of the island and the lighthouse of Moudari. Across the sea is the mainland of Greece and the end of our little island hopping from Crete, to Antikythera and then Kythera. After this small strip of sea, a new chapter of our trip is expecting us. But for now the date is September 23th and we are enjoying a breathtaking scenery!

We spent the night near the village of Karavas and since the weather was cloudy and windy, we figured that it was a great day for walking on a completely treeless part of the island! The lighthouse was the obvious attraction, since it is one of the biggest in Greece with a height of 25 meters (82 foot) and still in operation. Every guide book about Kythera is mentioning it. But it is the scenery that is truly mesmerizing!

I have told you many times about the wild beauty of Greek landscapes and I mean it every single time. I don't know if it is suitable for all kind of people but if you appreciate this kind of beauty, Greece is your place!

Meanwhile @traisto and Marcos are already there and I am still taking pictures from afar with my beloved EF80-200 f/2.8L zoom lens. Let's take a closer look :)

The lighthouse is more than 100 years old and was built by the English when they were occupying the island. I am not an expert in ship navigation to tell you about the importance of this construction but I can tell you that it is a delight to take pictures of it! And the view is just endless :)

I couldn't resist to end this post with a few close ups of the wild vegetation that are insisting to grow, despite the harsh conditions and the wild fire that burned the whole area a few years ago!

This is my contribution to the #SublimeSunday by @c0ff33a as well as the #beautifulsunday hosted by @ace108 :)

Have a lovely Sunday!

We had shared some comments previously about how the terrain and landscape may have shaped the ancient stories and myths. Seeing these pictures it's easy to understand how the sea played such an important part in ancient Greek mythology and was so prevalent in the stories. Awesome pictures.

Thank you very much!
Of course the landscape plays a significant role into the shaping of every culture and Greece is practically integrated with the sea.

What a lovely place. Being at the top of the light house would be well, I can't imagine the feelings if I am there. Lols
