Is it just me?

IMG_7393.jpg

I spent the whole day looking at that view.

Lovely, isn't it?

Or is it just me, being nostalgic?

After several months away from our farm, a day in a scenery very similar to Crete, was the best way to welcome May and reconnect with nature. Let alone that it was with good company and a comfortable sofa, right in the middle of an olive grove!

We were invited by some friends to spend the day with them in the property that they recently bought, near Nafplio. It is an olive grove with well established olive trees but our friends have plans to enrich it with many more trees and they have already planted a few of them!

Mulberries, figs, citrus trees and pomegranates, are the first that I noticed, as I was walking around with my camera in hand, capturing the vibe of the land.

The olive trees are of course the protagonists of the plot. They are in full bloom right now and if you look very closely you can see the first tiny olives already formed inside the flowers. May is a crucial month for next winter's harvest and hopefully we won't have any more crazy south winds and the fruit making will be completed without major losses.

The oregano, on the other hand is ready to be harvested. If only we had one rain to clean the plants from the dessert dust of the previous weeks, it would have been great!

But even without that, the time for the harvest has come. In the pics below you can see a bunch on the perfect stage, on the right and a bunch that has bloomed and it is already late to be harvested, on the left.

Then it is the vegetable garden just starting. It is very small but I know first hand that the satisfaction of eating your own vegetables has nothing to do with the quantities you produce. Even a handful of cherry tomatoes and a couple of peppers are enough to put a smile on the face of every gardener :)

Marcos (the dog) is wondering, for one more time, why I spend so much time in front of every tree instead of running around with him as fast as I can!

But there are so many things that I want to photograph, from the fruit trees till the humblest weed that is enjoying the sunshine and its luck to get away from the destructive rage of the grass trimmer :)

Although I still don't have a garden of my own, this was my response to the May Garden Journal Challenge of the C/HiveGarden.

Happy new month to all of you!

The camera that I used is a Canon EOS 850D with an EF-S 18-135mm lens attached. I edited the photographs in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic

All the pictures and the words are mine.

Thank you for reading and if you want to know more about me you can check out my introduction post.

That looks great! We spent this weekend looking for houses and plots to do the same! Saw an awesome house and 20k m2 of olive trees!

It is indeed!

Where is this awesome house with the olive trees? Not in the Netherlands, right?

The south of Spain. It was a beauty but a bit above budget.

How I wish I could grow my own olives! That must be heavenly. And all those other fruits that simply will not grow here. I'm jealous! Lovely shots.

Even a handful of cherry tomatoes and a couple of peppers are enough to put a smile on the face of every gardener :)

So true! Folks who don't garden have no idea of the joyful moments we get to have.

Thank you very much!

Gardening is a constant pendulum between disappointments and joy but once you are addicted, you can't stop :)

The truth is a beautiful place in which like you, I would have stopped to see every possible detail, see your pictures and that you mentioned that the olive trees have bloomed made me remember the avocado plant I have here is very, very loaded is very funny to see the little avocados the first rains threw some and so have fallen others, I presume that birds or winds, but I know that soon I will eat avocados from my own garden

I would love to have an avocado tree one day. It is not as easy here, as in Latin America but it is doable :)

Thank you for stopping by!

Or is it just me

No, it's not just you considering the fact they sell olive trees for dozens of thousands dollars in Thailand. olivetreebkk.com 😀 So... Thais, who aren't nostalgic since no olive trees in Thailand, love this tree.

Beautiful! I heard that's the best season in Greece now - not winter and still not too hot.

I checked that site. Who would imagine that exporting abroad centenarian, uprooted olive trees could ever happen, let alone in such a profitable way! It does seem insentient to me and like an act of vanity, a tree without its roots is like an empty shell but I guess as long as there are people buying there would be people selling.

Yes, spring is a very nice season. Apart from the days with south winds and red dust coming from Africa which are awful!

Thank you very much :)

That is a land of abundance. Very beautiful.
Love the shots.
Having your own fruit trees and garden is a true wealth and blessing.

I have few of my own fruit trees in my backyard; coconut, avocado, mango, anona trees, but I can't wait for us to get an acrage land where I pretty much want all kinds of fruit trees.
To me that is wealth.

Your friend's property has an amazing view. It's great to see them growing more trees and figs. Their vegetable garden although small is better than mine😊

I feel more peaceful for the visit!

Stunning visuals as always, and such a lovely description of the land. Sounds like heaven to have not only the olives but all of the other crops they are adding. I would love to sit on that sofa and soak it all in!
