Showcase Sunday: Blue hour

avatar

Actually this is not a re-posting, rather a collection of images that I have previously shared in various posts. So, since it's not the first time you see it (or maybe it is) I use the #showcasesunday tag, an initiative by @nonameslefttouse meant to revive old posts adding a new prospect.

The excuse for this collection is the 10th Photo 52, 2020 Challenge, a year-long contest created by @wwwiebe.

The theme this week is long exposure and I gathered some of my favorite shots taken during dusk. All of them are from Greece and in all of them I tried to capture the vague light between day and night, the one that we usually refer to as the blue hour.

Of course in Greece it is much less than an hour, hardly 15' and I have spent many evenings rushing around like a crazy man with a tripod, running to catch the light :)

Do you have any suggestions as to which one I should use for the contest?
Because I like all of them!

I guess all of you know all about the steemit-tron drama but just in case you don't, please use all your witnesses votes on real people so that we can get rid of tron's poppets.

I like all of course. I also like the blue hour, I didn't know what it's called.
I like this the most: Mochlos, Crete.
For the contest I would choose: Agios Nikolaos, Crete.
However, do not rely on my choices, please. Most of the time they are wrong.

I really like the #showcasesunday tag for just this reason; it gives people an opportunity to share some great finds with a brand new audience. And yes, I can imagine you running madly from place to place to catch the light! I've done the same. 😁

What is that spherical building in the third picture? It looks like an observatory of some sort, and I'm rather fascinated by it.

Yes, I have become very fond of that tag!
The building is the Turkish Mosque Yiali Tzami. It is the first mosque built in Crete after the Turkish conquest of the city of Chania in 1649. Now it is used for art exhibitions.

Awesome, thanks for the link! Do you ever get to see any of the exhibits?

Unfortunately no, I haven't. I do live on the same island but it is a 5 hours drive to Chania and I admit that all the times I have been there I was preoccupied with other things to do!
Maybe next time :)
