Superhumans in my eyes

The cold weather front ‘Barbara’ hit Greece with snowfall that started late on Saturday continued on Sunday as far south as Central Evia, cancellations of boat schedules, and snow chains on tires required in Attica and sections of the Peloponnese.

That is what the news keep telling but there was only a slight drizzle when we got out of the house this morning, so we figured to go ahead with our Sunday plans. And those plans involved taking the car and visiting the archeological site of Mykenae!

Despite the ominous weather forecast there were a lot of people visiting the site. It is after all, one of the most significant archeological sites in Greece and especially for those that are traveling from abroad to see it, a little cold is not enough to stop them :)

The truth is that it was cold for the Greek standards but it was not the cold itself that stopped me from taking the whole tour but the fact that I forgot to take gloves with me and trying to take a few pictures became kind of a torture :)

The location is on the top of a hill with breathtaking view. I have been there before, in a sunny day and it was magnificent but even with this gloomy weather the beauty of the scenery is undisputed!
Unfortunately a few years ago the entire area was burnt from a wild fire and the signs of that catastrophe are still visible.

The last two pictures are from the entrance to the Treasury of Atreus, one of the most impressive beehive tombs in Ancient Greece! It is built in around 1300 BC, it is more than 13 meters (43 feet) in height and standing inside is a unique experience. Trying to figure out how people managed to build this masterpiece almost 3,5 mileniums ago, is a true baffler. I'll just mention that the biggest stone that was used to the construction (placed above the entrance) is estimated to weight 120 tones! I don't know how they did it but those ancient guys sure look superhumans in my eyes :)

As I write those lines it is late at night and that "Barbara" weather front hasn't arrived to us yet. Let's see if we'll have tomorrow some of the snow that they promised us :)

Have a great week!

This is my contribution to #SublimeSunday inspired by @c0ff33a and #BeautifulSunday initiated by @ace108.
