The most warm welcome

In my last post I was still in Athens but today I returned back home at Crete. It has been one whole month since I left and I was eager to walk at the fields around our village and see what has changed during my absence. Nature seems to be dormant, as it should be at the middle of winter but at a turn of my route I had the most warm welcome that I could wish for.

An almond tree in full blossom, screaming that spring is in its way!

I have to admit that I was expecting to see something like that but it was even better than my hopes! It is one of those little things of rural life that I witness every year and yet they never cease to amaze and excite me! And of course I had my camera with me to enrich, a bit more, my already vast portfolio of almond tree bloom pictures!

I am living for 9 years in this area and till now observing the circles of nature was the obvious thing to do. After the first couple of years I started to take it as granted, as something that I will always have the chance to do. But life tends to take unexpected turns and drift us in new, unknown paths. The wind of change is blowing in my life too and this year I am observing the repeated and so familiar changeability of my surrounding in a more conscious way.

Every year I watch the same trees transforming from a naked wooden skeleton, to a white vision, every year I take pictures and the most important, every year I take valuable lesson about life itself. And if next year I'll not be around to experience all that by myself, the memories and knowledge of all those years will always be with me!

Beautiful.
my son was born when I still lived in Mallorca.
this island is famous for its Almond blossom.
when we left for the hospital, there were hardly any open flowers, but less then 36 hours later bringing him home with us, the island was all dressed white.
ever since then, the flowering of Almond trees symbolizes for me a beginning of a new cycle.
we just celebrated his 8th birthday on Feb.15th (born 15.2.15).
funny enough, his group age at his school is called Almonds ; )
thanks for sharing !

How nice to associate a birth with a blooming, that was a lovely coincidence! Thank you very much for sharing it with me :)

And happy birthday to your son!

Definitely a lovely thing to see. We have seen some here too but I’m out case hawthorn blossom which within a few weeks will dominate the hedgerows around here. It has a lovely scent too. I’ll share a few on my Actifit posts.

These trees are so beautiful up close. Favorite photo is the blurry flower over the horizontal branch, because it shows so much contrast. Dull and colorful, rough and soft.

The dance of the almond blossom. So very sublime! You returned, just in time. The delicate features are exquisitely posing, longing to be framed.

I left home on January 14, but will not return until next weekend. I hope your trip was wonderful!

What a gorgeous welcome home! I think that would be one of my favorite parts of rural living. I try to appreciate these kinds of moments more and more in life. Excellent shots... as always.
