Under the stars

_MG_0470-Edit.jpg

To pick up the thread of my narration where I left it last Sunday, let me remind you that I was talking about the town of Sparta. Which now is that white spot in the middle of the picture above!

Because when you are in Sparta and you want to have a lunch with view, then this is the place :)

"Chromata” (meaning colours in Greek) Restaurant in Pikoulianika, is a quarter of an hour driving away from Sparta to the west and it deserves every last minute of driving in the notoriously narrow and winding Greek roads!

The view is wonderful, the food is great and the short trip from the town to the village with the lush vegetation, totally refreshing!

How am I doing?

Did I convince you to visit it?

Probably not. Anyway I was never to good to selling things, including my own work. Let alone someone's else restaurant :)

But I have something more to show to you. Maybe you'll find it more interesting!

This time we are driving south of Sparta for about half an hour following even more steep and more twisting roads since we are climbing the biggest mountain of the Peloponnese region.

If you are an avid hiker you would love this place but even if you are not, you'll love it the same! Especially if you are fond of five stars resorts in the forest!

If you liked the exterior and the surrounding area, I am sure you are going to love the interior of it :)

Usually I am not impressed by expensive hotels, neither I appreciate their extravagant bad taste. But this one was like entering the house of a beloved aunt that I haven't seen in years.

You know what kind of aunt I am talking about. The one that passes her time with needlework, making embroidered tablecloths and adorable bedroom pillows and every Saturday evening is having fun rearranging her china :)

You can find Ilaeira Mountain Resort next to the hardly a village, Toriza. If you are a nature lover but you can't enjoy it without a warm comfortable bed and a nice meal waiting for you once you return from your naturalistic quests then this is great!

Myself, I would probably be in my van, spending the night under the stars :)

I took those pictures on 15/07/2011, when I was working as a photographer for a travel magazine. A job that allowed me to travel all over Greece and see all the places I ever wanted to see and some more that I never imagined I would be interested in (but I enjoyed them anyway).

All the pictures and the words are mine.

Thank you for reading and if you want to know more about me you can check out my introduction post.

Actually you are good at selling! I truly want to visit the places you’ve recommended! It has been forty years since I was last in Greece, and it is forty years too long. The lovely towns, the beautiful people, and the delicious food captured my heart. It must have been an amazing experience working as a travel photographer!

I am glad I convinced you, although I think you didn't much effort to be convinced :)

Wow, 40 years! That means you have visited the Greece of my childhood. Everything is so different now.

The work was memorable for sure. It wasn't all roses but I never regret it!

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you'll have the chance to visit Greece again and see all the changes by yourself :)

How funny :)

I literally joked about van life again with my son this very morning. Yeah... me too. Outdoors any day.

But I did add this morning: "With a fuck ton of cash so that we can crash in a nice air bnb when we get tired of camping and van life."

Balance, you know ;)

I did note expect to see this kind of decor out there. It looks pretty Colonial

Yes, I know! It is something that I would never have thought in my twenties but now it is always in the back of my mind when I am travelling :)

Wow, it is an adorable place, both for its exterior views and for its cozy interior atmosphere... The weather seems to be spectacular!... Beautiful photos!... An excellent article as always!

A really beautiful place to see, you say that you are not good at selling other people's work but your narrative was great hehehe, greetings from Havana. I enjoyed the story and the images.

Thank you.

I see you are new in hive so if you don't mind a friendly advise from an old-timer, dropping links in other people's posts is considered rude, some might even think of it as abusive behaviour and you could find yourself with enemies you don't want.

Cheers from Greece
