Mothers in Movies & TV Shows Special [ENG/ESP]
Mother's Day is celebrated today, the second Sunday of May, in most parts of the world. Although for many it is a commercial date, it is still a special day for those of us who still enjoy the joy of having our mother on this plane. However, I wanted to pay tribute to all those mothers we have seen for years on television, movies and throughout the entertainment industry.
If we talk about mothers, we can not fail to highlight the absence of these in many productions. Candy Candy, for example, was an orphan, just like Heidi, another animé that made us dream in the last century. And how can we forget El Chavo del ocho, Zorro, The Powerpuff Girls and all the cases in which the main character did not have a mother figure in the story.
El día de las madres se celebra hoy, el segundo domingo de mayo, en gran parte del mundo. Aunque para muchos es una fecha comercial, no deja de ser un día especial para quienes todavía gozamos de la alegría de contar con nuestra mamá en este plano. Sin embargo, quería rendirles homenaje a todas esas madres que por años hemos visto en la televisión, cine y en toda la industria del entretenimiento.
Si hablamos de madres, no podemos dejar de destacar la ausencia de estas en muchas producciones. Candy Candy por ejemplo, era huérfana, igual que Heidi, otro animé que nos hizo soñar el siglo pasado. Y como olvidar a El Chavo del ocho, El Zorro, Las Chicas Superpoderosas y todos los casos en el cual el personaje principal no contaba con una figura materna dentro dela historia.
On the other hand, we have many others (and excuse me if I forget to mention some of them) that did an incredible job. For example, Chi-Chi from Dragon Ball had to raise her children practically alone, since Goku was dead all the time. Chi-Chi emphasized her children's studies and preparation, a mother dedicated to her children and her husband when he happened to be alive.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's aunt Vivían is another outstanding example. Although here Uncle Phil had the greatest weight, Aunt Vivían was always concerned about her children and her role as a woman. And since we are in the nineties, it is difficult to forget Sylvia Fine, the mother of Frank Fine, the unforgettable protagonist of The Nanny. This witty mother, along with Grandma Yetta, made us laugh hard for years.
Kitty Forman from That 70's Show is another hilarious, satirical and over-the-top mom that I got to enjoy a lot on the small screen. Lois Wilkerson, the Malcolm mother in the middle, attentive and understanding to her children, is another standout. And don't forget Piper Halliwell, the second of the sisters in Charmed who had to raise her children in an environment threatened by demons and evil creatures.
Por otra parte, tenemos a otras tantas (y me disculpan si se me olvida mencionar a algunas) que hicieron un trabajo increíble. Por ejemplo, Milk de Dragon Ball tuvo que criar a sus hijos prácticamente sola, ya que Goku se la pasaba muerto todo el rato. Milk hacía hincapié en los estudios y preparación de sus hijos, una madre dedicada a sus hijos y a su esposo cuando de casualidad estaba vivo.
La tía Vivían del príncipe del Rap, es otro de los ejemplos destacables. Aunque aquí el peso mayor lo tenía el tío Phil, la tía Vivían siempre vivía preocupada de sus hijos y de su rol como mujer. Y ya que estamos en los noventa, es difícil olvidar a Sylvia Fine, la madre de Frank Fine la inolvidable protagonista de La Niñera. Está ocurrente madre, junto con la abuela Yetta, nos hicieron reír con ganas por años.
Kitty Forman de That 70's Show es otra madre hilarante, satírica y desmedida que llegue a disfrutar mucho en la pantalla chica. Lois Wilkerson, la madre Malcolm en el medio, atenta y compresiva ante sus hijos, es otra figura destacable. Y no se olviden de Piper Halliwell, la segunda de las hermanas en Charmed quien tuvo que criar a sus hijos en un ambiente amenazado por demonios y criaturas diabólicas.
Another name that can't escape me is Bambi's mom, the sad story in which a mother gives her life for her little baby, we all cried with this story. Continuing with Disney, it is impossible to forget Jumbo, Dumbo's mother, who protected her little elephant from the rejection he suffered in the circus. A protective, close and emotional mother.
Marge Simpson is another great mother. Originally, she is always the one who adds a dose of sanity to the crazy Springfield family. We all love Marge, she is funny, entertaining and dedicated to her home. Morticia Adams, though carefree, is also a loving mother to her children. Also, a classic on television.
Otro nombre que no se me puede escapar es la mamá de Bambi, la triste historia en la cual una madre da la vida por su pequeña cría, todos lloramos con esta historia. Siguiendo con Disney, es imposible olvidarnos de Jumbo, la madre de Dumbo, quien protegía a su pequeño elefante del rechazo que sufría en el circo. Una madre protectora, cercana y emotiva.
Marge Simpson, es otra gran madre. Originalmente, es siempre la que agrega una dosis de cordura a la loca familia de Springfield. Todos amamos a Marge, es divertida, amena y dedicada a su hogar. Morticia Adams, aunque despreocupada, también es una madre cariñosa con sus hijos. Además, un clásico en la televisión.
Particularly special in Latin America, many telenovelas have left unforgettable characters in our memories. An example of this is Julia Solano, the endearing mother of Betty, La Fea, who supports her daughter at all times. Eva Lanz, the mother of My Sweet Valentina, who every day tried to be a better mother to her daughter, cannot be left out of this list either. But, it would be impossible to include them all, so I leave you some special mentions: Lucía in "Piel de Otoño", María in "La Madrastra", Refugio in "Corona de Lágrimas", Refugio in "Rubí", Macarena in "En Nombre del Amor".
Other mothers who are so bad, they are good are Catalina Creel in "Cuna de Lobos", Paola Bracho in "La Usurpadora", Lilian Palacios in "Vino el Amor", Refugio in "Teresa", Kristina Lilley in "Pasión de Gavilanes" and the unforgettable "Doña Bárbara". Brazil has also left us several evil characters such as Bia in Bellisima, Carmina in "Avenida Brasil" and Barbara in "El Color del Pecado".
Netflix has Tokio's mom in Money Heist, who in the first episode of the series was already handing her daughter over to the police. Another one that comes to mind is Gina, in Sky Rojo, a Cuban woman who is tricked and taken to Spain to Prostitute herself. More recently, Netflix gave us the return to television of Veronica Castro, in the iconic role of Virginia in The House of Flowers. And although she is only on for one season, she is still important in the course of the whole story. A realistic, imperfect and dramatic mother, but unforgettable.
Particularmente especial en Latinoamérica, muchas telenovelas nos han dejado a personajes inolvidables en el recuerdo. Un ejemplo de ello, es Julia Solano, la entrañable madre de Betty, La Fea, quien apoya a su hija en todo momento. Eva Lanz, la madre de Mi Gorda Bella, quien cada día trataba de ser una mejor madre para su hija, tampoco puede quedar por fuera en esta lista. Pero, sería imposible incluirlas a todas, así que les dejo algunas menciones especiales: Lucía en "Piel de Otoño", María en "La Madrastra", Refugio en "Corona de Lágrimas", Refugio en "Rubí", Macarena en "En Nombre del Amor".

Otra que viene al caso es Gina, en Sky Rojo, una cubana que es engañada y llevada a España a Prostituirse. Más recientemente, Netflix nos regaló el regreso a la televisión de Verónica Castro, en el icónico papel de Virginia en La Casa de Las Flores. Y aunque solo está una temporada, sigue siendo importante en el trascurso de toda la historia. Una madre realista, imperfecta y dramática, pero inolvidable.
In cinema there are also exceptional mothers, Donna from "Mamma Mia!", Erin Brockovich, the unforgettable role played by Julia Roberts, for which she won an Oscar. Sarah Connor, the mother of John Connor in "Terminator" is also a mother worth remembering, because she did whatever it took to save her children from the machines that were looking for him to kill him. Malorie in "Birdbox" protects her children in uncertainty, she is another mother full of merits.

Sarah Connor, la madre del Jonh Connor en "Terminator" también es una madre digna de recordar, porque hizo lo que fuera por salvar a sus hijos de las máquinas que lo buscaban para asesinarlo. Malorie en "Birdbox" protege a sus hijos en la incertidumbre, es otra madre llena de méritos.
De España podríamos mencionar a Laura en "El Orfanato", Lucía en el "Páramo" y sería ridículo no hablar de Almodóvar, quien le ha dado un trasfondo digno de su sello personal a las madres. La madre Almodóvar es como Irene en "Volver" una que, sin estar viva, logra cautivar a la audiencia siendo tan realista como una madre (valga la redundancia) viva.
I hope you enjoyed this recount as much as I did, I have told you the ones I remembered. Undoubtedly, I must have missed a few important names that I will surely hate myself tonight for not having mentioned them, but you know the important thing is to pay a well-deserved tribute to all those mothers in the world, who with their love, patience and effort manage to move their families forward.

Erin Brockovich Is a great character and I love Julia Roberts.
I love how you mentioned Marge Simpson, she's the only sane person on that show and her daughter Lisa doesn't even come close 😄
I'd like to add to this list, Alex from the series MAID, and Georgia from MOTHER/ANDROID. I was really touched by how both women looked out for their kids despite the hardship they went through.

Bueno yo me quedo con Marge una mamá que demuestra mucho interés por sus hijos, por Homero es espontánea y única; la mamá de Betty la fea quien se convirtió en su mejor amiga,en su confidente y es súper tierna; y Refugio corona de lágrimas, una mamá que ama mucho a sus hijos. Muy lindo tu post ya tengo a lista nuevas series que ver.
