Splinterlands Battle of the Week - Dragons

Hey guys,

I don’t know, why I always title my „Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge“ articles with „Battle of the Week“, but it has a cooler ring to it in my opinion.
Anyways, this weeks prompt was Dragons and although I had plenty of battles for Portal Spinner, Soul Strangler and the monsters the weeks before (and never submitted any article for it :( ), we all can draw on nearly unlimited resources, when it comes to Dragons.

I didn’t even know how to chose a battle this week, because there were so many to chose from, even a few very interesting ones, where I received a severe beating.

I eventually settled on a battle, I’ve won against an opponent, who also put a dragon summoner on the battlefield.
And it was a tough one. We both had almost gold max level for every monster (he was one level short with Carnage Titan and I had to put a level 2 Adelade Brightwing in the roster).

If you want to watch this riveting battle of minds and monsters, you can see it here

Ruleset and Mana Cap

ruleset.JPG

The ruleset for this battle was Wek Magic. Any magic attack hits the armor of a monster, before it can reduce the health pool.

With this ruleset and with a decent amount of Mana (58), you can expect heavy hitters on the enemy side and almost none magic. I still hoped, he would include one or two magic monsters, but I was wrong.

My Lineup

I myself included three magic monsters, but almost entirely because of their buffs/debuffs.

I had Life as my daily focus and I love the life lineup with additional dragon monsters, so I chose a mashup of dragon and life cards.

Lineup.jpg

Quix was my first Chaos Legion Summoner I leveled up to gold (The first summoner ever to level up in any capacity) and he was the perfect choice for me in this setup.
I wanted to hit first, so Quix’ minus 1 speed for the enemy was a good start. For my monsters I chose Djinn Chwalla with a decent amount of shield plus thorns and 10 health basic health point.
Carnage Titan with 7 shield, 8 health and double strike as a reach monster was a must and after that came my life monsters.
I chose Djinn Renova for the extra health and triage, because I suspected (albeit didn’t prepare enough for) at least one or two sneak monsters on the other side and unfortunately, I was right.

Time mage with her (?) 3 health points and zero shield could have been my weakest point, if my opponent would have chosen an opportunity monster, but I got lucky.

I wanted the time mage für the additional -1 speed debuff and the -2 shield debuff. In the end, it was a good choice.
Venari Crystalsmith is a staple in the life game and it gets Dispel at level 6, which removes all positive status effects on the monster, it hits.

Adelade Brightwing in the back of the line should have resurrected either Djinn Chwalla or Time Mage and repair some shield damage in the process. I had hoped, her flying ability would garner at least one hit miss, but I calculated wrong. But it could’ve worked.

Enemy Lineup

Enemy Lineup.jpg

My opponents Lineup was equally well thought through.
Quix was the summoner of choice in contrast to me, he decided on Fire as his side-splinter.

His tank was Grum Flameblade, which was perfect against my three magic monsters. Flameblade not only had Void Armor, but Void as well. I was lucky to have brought heavy melee-hitters with me as well, or I could not have killed even Grum.

In the second position, he decided on Carnage Titan, but his Titan only was at Level 2, which lacked Shield against melee attacks (takes half damage off).

One of the deciding factors for my eventual win (SPOILER! ^^)

Level 6 Tenyii Striker combined with a level 6 Dhampir Infiltrator (I hate those cripples plus double strike) is a deadly force. Tusk the Wide with a gold max Level5 and also a level 5 Lava Launcher completed my enemies very strong lineup.

If I had to guess who would win at the start of the battle, I wouldn’t have chosen me.

Battle – Round 1

Round 1.JPG

After all Buffs and Debuffs were done, I had a good feeling again, because none of his monsters had more than 1 speed.

When I was finished with all my attacks, Grum had lost his 5 attack due to the dispel from Crystalsmith and lost all his armor and health except for three points.

Then it was his turn. Grum took a bloody nose with Djinn’s thorns and the Carnage Titan without Shield took 4 thorndamage from Djinn Chwalla.
Unfortunately, I didn’t expect to loose my Adelade Brightwing so quickly.
Tusk The Wide had buffed all opponents melee monsters with an extra damage, so Tenyii Striker and Dhampir Infiltrator took out my backline rather quickly. I was lucky for my Crystalsmith to survive round 1.

Battle – Round 2

Round 2.JPG

The Time Mage quickly took Grum’s last health point, before Crystalsmith dispelled the next tank in line (Carnage Titan) melee buff and healed my Djinn Chwalla before Djinn Renova could heal the Crystalsmith in the backline and almost killed the Titan.
This honour would fall to my Carnage Titan, who had no problems with his shieldless twin.

My tank was stunned by Lava Launcher, otherwise the match would have been over, already. But instead Dhampir Infiltrator could take out my Crystalsmith and Tenyii Striker could kill off Djinn Chwalla..

Battle – Round 3

Round 3.JPG

At least, I still had my speedy Gonzalez (Time Mage), which decreased Strikers healthpool for two points, so that Djinn Renove would only need one additional hit for Striker to say goodbye. Carnage Titan made short work of Dhampir Infiltrator with double strike, so that only Tusk the Wide and Lava Launcher were on the other side.

But I didn’t expect Lava Launcher to hit every stun until the end...

Battle – Round 4 and 5

Round 4.JPG

Carnage Titan was out and Time Mage/Djinn Renova only made little headway against Tusk’s void, whereas Tusk and Lava Launcher drilled into my stunned Titan.
If you count the stun against Djinn Chwalla, Lava Launcher had 5 consecutive stuns against my tanks. Very unfortunate. After the fifth round, Tusk still had 8 health points and Carnage Titan only had 5 left.
In this moment, I was convinced, that I was toast.

Battle – Round 6 and 7

Round 6.JPG

Tusk lost 3 damage instead of 5 and my Titan was down to his last health point. But i got lucky for once. Lava Launcher didn’t stun my tumbling tank, so he could take out Tusk and a good chunk of Lava Launcher’s shield for the remaining monsters on my side, because with Lava Launchers last attack, it took out Titan.

Battle – Round 8 and 9

Round 8.JPG

The last two rounds were straightforward. Each monster hit, but no stun. Lava Launcher didn’t stand a chance in the end and he was demolished in round 9.

Battle Results

Battle Results_Focu Points.png

Because I had chosen 4 life cards for my deck, I got a decent amount of DEC and Reward Points. 20% winning streak, 5% guild bonus and 40% Focus Cards took me to 30 DEC and almost 30 RP. Not a bad outcome for me. I presume, these kind of rewards are dwarfed by Diamond or Champion rewards, but I am content with what I get for the moment :o).

Great battle!! That was very close in the end. I like battling FIRE element as they usually are best fought against with Melee and that is my favourite form of attack at the moment.

Thanks :). It could have gone either way though, due to this damn Lava Launcher ^^
