Book: The climber || Libro: La trepadora de Rómulo Gallegos [ENG-ESP]
Happy start of the week! On this day I want to share my new reading experience with the book entitled La trepadora by the Venezuelan novelist Rómulo Gallegos. The same was released in 1925, which to date is a novel that has been recognized in the country, so I can highlight that the story of the climber was presented as a Venezuelan soap opera produced and broadcast by the RCTV network in 2008. Without further ado Let's talk about the book!
¡Feliz inicio de semana! En este día quiero compartir mi nueva experiencia lectora con el libro titulado La trepadora del novelista venezolano Rómulo Gallegos. La misma fue dada a conocer en el año 1925, lo cual, hasta la fecha actual es una novela que ha sido reconocida en el país, por lo que, puedo resaltar que la historia de la Trepadora fue presentada como una telenovela venezolana producida y transmitida por la cadena RCTV en el año 2008. Sin más preámbulos ¡Hablemos del libro!
Now, the book tells the story between the protagonist and a domestic worker, so the novel turns into a romance that is forbidden due to the differences between their social classes. The first part of the story takes place in the countryside, specifically in the region of the Valles del Tuy located in the Miranda State of Venezuela. The second part takes place in Caracas. Among the main characters we find Hilario Guanipa, who is the illegitimate son that Don Jaime del Casal had with Modesta Guanipa, before marrying Doña Águeda. Adelaida Salcedo, who is Doña Agueda's relative, is a romantic girl in search of the perfect man and Victoria, who is the only daughter of Hilario and Adelaida.
Ahora bien, el libro narra la historia entre el protagonista con una trabajadora doméstica, por lo que, la novela se torna a un romance que está prohibido debido a las diferencias entre sus clases sociales. Por su parte, la primera parte de la historia se desarrolla en el campo, especificamente en la región de los Valles del Tuy ubicada en el Estado Miranda del país Venezuela. Y la segunda parte en Caracas. Dentro de los personajes principales encontramos a Hilario Guanipa, quien es el hijo ilegitimo que don Jaime del Casal tuvo con Modesta Guanipa, antes de casarse con Doña Águeda. Adelaida Salcedo, viene siendo la pariente de Doña Águeda, es una muchacha romántica en busca del hombre perfecto y Victoria, quien es la única hija de Hilario y Adelaida.
That said, the book begins with the return of Hilario Guanipa to the Tuy Valleys, as I mentioned at the beginning, Hilario is the illegitimate son of Don Jaime. Also, it should be noted that when Hilario lived in that hacienda, he enjoyed being in the place until his mother died. This made him become a butler, but later on, his father got sick and decided to leave Venezuela. This made Hilario decide to travel to the states of Guárico and Apure.
Dicho esto, el libro inicia con el regreso de Hilario Guanipa a los Valles del Tuy, como bien mencioné al principio, Hilario es el hijo ilegitimo de Don Jaime. Asimismo, se debe resaltar que cuando Hilario vivía en aquella hacienda, disfrutaba de estar en el lugar hasta que su madre muere. Esto hizo que se convirtiera en mayordomo, sin embargo más adelante, su padre se enferma y decide irse de Venezuela. Esto hizo que Hilario tomara la decisión de viajar a los estados de Guárico y Apure.
After three years away from home, Hilario returns with his father. In addition to the reunion appears Adelaida, a cousin who since her childhood has spent her vacations at the Cantarrana hacienda and who has always liked Hilario's folkloric stories. The reunion is brought together by love when Hilario helps her to cross a river on a family outing. The love that arises between these cousins alarms the whole family so they decide to separate the young people; therefore, Hilario decides to think of a quick plan, which was to run away with his beloved, however, something changed when Hilario hears Adelaida playing the piano. Thinking that his love will be for him when he has something else to offer her, like the hacienda. After a while, Hilario and Adelaida get married and move to the Cantarrana, but instead of everything ending like a fairy tale, a story of torment begins for his wife.
Después de tres años lejos de casa, Hilario vuelve junto con su padre. Sumado al reecuentro aparece Adelaida, una prima que desde su infancia ha pasado sus vacaciones en la hacienda Cantarrana y que siempre le habían gustado los cuentos folclóricos de Hilario. El recuentro es unido por el amor cuando Hilario le brinda su ayuda para pasar por un río en un paseo familiar. El amor que surge entre estos primos alarma a toda la familia así que deciden separar a los jóvenes; por ello, Hilario decide pensar en un plan rápido, lo cual, consistía en escapar con su amada, sin embargo, algo cambió cuando Hilario escucha a Adelaida tocar el piano. Pensando en que su amor será para él cuando tenga algo más que ofrecerle, como la hacienda. Después de un tiempo, Hilario y Adelaida se casan y se mudan a la Cantarrana, pero en vez de todo terminar como un cuento de hadas empieza una historia de tormentos para su esposa.
It is known that Hilario loved Adelaida deeply, but apparently he did not show it, because instead of living in the house that belonged to his father, he preferred to live in a poor house, which undoubtedly generated conflicts between the couple. Later, when their first daughter was born, Hilario despised her because he wanted to have a son. Some time later, Adelaida became pregnant, but this pregnancy brought her many risks, so she lost her child; it was a boy, Hilario's greatest wish. Finally, after that event, Hilario became a more complacent man with his wife, so they moved to the house where he grew up with his father and he accepted his daughter Victoria, teaching her to hunt. He was happy to have his love and his beloved daughter by his side.
Se sabe que Hilario amaba profundamente a Adelaida, pero al parecer no lo demostraba, debido a que, en lugar de vivir en la casa que le perteneció a su padre prefirió estar en una casa pobre, esto sin duda alguna, generó conflictos en la pareja. Seguidamente, al nacer su primera hija, Hilario la desprecia debido a que su deseo era tener un hijo varón. Tiempo más tarde, Adelaida queda embarazada, pero dicho embarazo le trajo muchos riesgos, por lo que, pierde a su hijo; era un varón, el deseo más grande de Hilario. Finalmente, después de aquel acontecimento Hilario se transforma en un hombre más complaciente con su mujer, por lo que, se mudan a la casa en la que creció junto con su padre y acepta a su hija Victoria, enseñándole a cazar. Se sentía feliz de tener a su amor y a su amada hija a su lado.
There is no doubt that this novel will always be known by many people, in addition to leaving us much to reflect on.
No cabe duda, que esta novela siempre será conocida por muchísimas personas, además de que nos deja mucho por el cual reflexionar.
