Singapore… City of Contrast 🎨
Last weekend I had a pleasure to go for a walk along Orchard Road to do an errand. I mistakenly took a bus that I thought will pass by near the ION mall but instead I alighted at the Somerset area because it was the nearest stop to my destination. The weather was okay so I decided to walk which is about 8-10 minutes.
It’s warm outside but I thought that it’s better than walking under a rain.
The Orchard Road area is an interesting place to visit in the city. The designs of the buildings vary from a modern high-rise to a traditional looking modern pagoda.
It’s where you can find shopping malls with the high-end brands at their shopfront. And across it is a cart that sells the most affordable ice cream in the city.
At a corner between Orchard and Somerset, I noticed a cart where people are gathering around it. They are giving away a free Connor’s Stout! If I wasn’t for an errand that I have to do then I should’ve queued for a can of it as well.
I noticed that certain brands use this kind of marketing strategy in order to get patrons to try their product so eventually they will acquire new customers.
There’s this sports drink brand that will ask you to squat for 3 times to receive a free can of drink. It’s fun and it’s free so people also line up for it.
At the middle of my walk, I saw an on going event near the Takashimaya shopping mall.
Too bad, I don’t have enough time to buy coupons and queue. This event was super organized that no one can simply walk in and buy food.
I moved on and walk ahead towards ION mall and saw a group of buskers near Wisma. It seems that this group organized an event for different local bands that represents their school as well. I never thought that there’s such event in this area. I may need to come back some other time to witness these events and be able to stay a little longer to watch more of it.
I almost forget, there’s a street magician who also set up his own stage and apparently the kids like it so much 🤩.
I remember how busy was in the Orchard Road in my very first visit in Singapore back in Feb 2014, it's like the Nathan Road in Hong Kong, very busy, many people around.
