RE: In A World That Encourages You To Share Your Thoughts — Shut Up and Listen

Thank you for your perspective on this topic @raymondspeaks,

This very much mirrors how I have been feeling lately, specifically in the digital realm. I enjoy listening to the perspective of others, as well as debating and thought challenging, but I often find that people really don't seem to want to hear the perspective of others, they simply wait to respond in sometimes a very challenging way, which is ok to a degree, because otherwise debate would not exist right? But when it turns abusive (which it oftentimes does) then I don't see much good or positivity left to be had.

I also have to check myself, and measure how much I am actually listening to others as well. I like to believe I am a good listener, and enjoy digesting the perspective of others, but as you also mentioned, sometimes it's easy to get caught up in certain ways of thinking or acting, which later one might come to realize was actually a little selfish, or not in full consideration of the feelings and perspectives of others.

Great food for thought here, and after leaving 2 debates feeling abused already today, this really helped me gather my thoughts, and I wrote an article about it.

I know you're a busy man, but if the interest and time is available for you, I would love to hear your thoughts. :)

I shall go check it out @futuremind.

I have one rule man. Don't argue over the internet. As soon as someone begins to get hostile then there's no real reason to be in that argument anymore. Because you lose if you continue. Not your point, but your mental well-being. You'll always lose by arguing with those that can't be reasoned with!

You can defuse it every time but it sucks to do so. You can go, "wow, you're right. I get that. I'm sorry man"

Works every time.

A rule to debating is that you will never be able to win against anyone if they see you as your enemy. People are far more receptive to hearing points from their friends.

Make lots of friends with good people and discuss naturally things that come to your mind! Like you did with us in the discord yesterday.

Far better than going to it with your enemy's, right? :)
