On my recent visit to Caracas, during the evening, I didn't miss the opportunity to go out and do some sightseeing. I didn't have too much charge on my phone so I wasn't able to capture interesting moments to save battery; however, while walking along the boulevard of Sabana Grande, I came across a simply cool handicraft stall.

I saw it from afar and it was something different from the other stalls there, mostly because of the merchandise, not because of anything else. I approached it and immediately asked about all the things they were selling, as they all attracted a lot of attention.

There was a lot of craftsmanship but all very beautiful and well made, garments made by the artisans who owned the stall in metal, leather and various materials.

It was certainly interesting the way they exhibited their creations because they looked very good in the stand. I was very struck by the way they placed some stone charms of different colors, with small statuettes and ornaments in the center of the charms.

Something she told me about what they did was that they used to use a material to fix the pieces, I don't remember the exact name she told me but it had something to do with epoxy, I told her that I am also an artisan and I even told her that in some occasions I used epoxy clay. Well, that was the material they used to use for this type of charms so well arranged on their tables, to fix the stone in the necklace.

Many woven leather bracelets, plus bags also made with leather, in very interesting colors that you would not normally see in a conventional clothing store and this is the interesting thing when you visit this kind of craft stalls, because you find really beautiful pieces made with the personal taste of an artist, trying to capture the art in each of his pieces, which are not mass produced but each one has something unique and special.

Other charms, for example, that also caught my attention were the ones with faces carved in clay. The artisan told me that they were inspired by the Muai, other Mexican sculptures and some of African origin, so there is a cultural research behind each of these pieces, which gives an added value to the art there.

I spent quite a while chatting with the two artisans and they even commented that they knew someone from Yaracuy, my hometown. We exchanged instagram and I was able to see some of their work in more detail. There on instagram you can find her as @arteurbano03, where you can learn more about her craftsmanship.

En mi reciente visita a Caracas, durante la noche, no perdí la oportunidad de salir a hacer un poco de turismo. No tenía demasiada carga en mi teléfono así que no pude capturar momentos interesantes para ahorrar batería; sin embargo, mientras caminaba por el bulevar de Sabana Grande, me encontré con un puesto de artesanía simplemente genial.

Lo vi desde lejos y era algo distinto a los otros puestos que había, más que todo por la mercancía, no por otra cosa. Me acerqué y de inmediato pregunté por todas las cosas que vendían, pues todas llamaban mucho la atención.

Había mucha artesanía pero toda muy hermosa y bien hecha, prendas hechas por los artesanos dueños del puesto en materiales metálicos, cuero y diversos materiales.

Ciertamente era interesante la manera en que exhibían sus creaciones pues lucían muy bien en el stand. A mi me llamó mucho la atención la forma en cómo colocaron algunos dijes de piedras de diversos colores, con pequeñas estatuillas y adornos en el centro de los dijes.

Algo que me comentó sobre lo que hacían es que solían utilizar un material para fijar las piezas, la verdad no recuerdo el nombre exacto que ella me dijo pero algo tenía que ver con la epóxica, pues le comenté que to también soy un artesano e incluso le dije que en algunas ocasiones llegué a usar arcilla epóxica. Pues bien, ese era el material que solían utilizar para este tipo de dijes tan bien acomodados en sus mesas, para fijar la piedra en el collar.

Muchas pulseras de cuero tejido, además de bolsos también hechos con cuero, de colores muy interesantes que normalmente no verías en una tienda de ropa convencional y esto es lo interesante cuando uno visita esta clase de puestos de artesanía, pues encuentras piezas realmente hermosas hechas con el gusto personal de un artista, tratando de plasmar el arte en cada una de sus piezas, que no son fabricadas en masa sino que cada una tiene algo único y especial.

Otros dijes, por ejemplo, que llamaron también mi atención fueron los de los rostros tallados en arcilla. La artesana me comentó que estaban inspirados en los muai, otras esculturas mexicanas y algunas más e origen africano, así que hay una investigación cultural detrás de cada una de estas piezas, lo cual le da un valor añadido al arte que hay allí.

Estuve durante un buen rato conversando con los dos artesanos e incluso me comentaron que conocían a alguien de Yaracuy, mi ciudad natal.
