In every city in Venezuela there is a Plaza Bolivar. Normally these plazas are surrounded by other government buildings, in the case of my city it is no different. In the Plaza Bolivar of the place where I live, San Felipe, Yaracuy, it is surrounded by the Governor's Office and other small buildings related to the Government.

The first building I would like to highlight is the Government Palace. It is a government building full of offices, where normally the personnel related to the state government is located. It is not open to the public, so I could only take a few pictures from the outside.

En cada ciudad de Venezuela existe una Plaza Bolivar. Normalmente estas plazas están rodeadas por otros edificios gubernamentales, en el caso de mi ciudad no es distinto. En la Plaza Bolivar del lugar donde vivo, San Felipe, Yaracuy, está rodeada por la Gobernación y otras pequeñas edificaciones que guardan relación con el Gobierno.

El primer edificio que me gustaría destacar es el palacio de Gobierno. Es una edificación gubernamental repleta de oficinas, en donde normalmente se encuentra el personal relacionado con la gobernación del estado. No está abierto al público, por lo que solo pude tomar unas cuantas fotografías desde fuera.

It is a cream-colored building, not entirely white, but with light shades. In its facade you can see the large doorway, the front pillars of the building and the large windows on the front face and on the sides of the building.

Es un edificio color crema, no blanco en su totalidad, pero sí de tonalidades claras. En su fachada se puede observar el gran umbral de la puerta, los pilares delanteros del edificio y las grandes ventanas que hay en la cara frontal como en los laterales de la edificación.

A couple of other buildings that can be seen at a glance are some that are next to the Government Palace, one of them being the State Legislative Palace.

They are smaller buildings but with an interesting design. Both maintain the colonial design that characterizes this type of government-related buildings, with pillars, large windows and that characteristic structure. I would dare to say that almost all buildings of this type are the same, because in those colonial times all buildings looked like this, or at least most of them.

Un par de edificios más que se pueden apreciar a simple vista son unos que se encuentran junto al palacio de Gobierno, siendo uno de estos el Palacio Legislativo del Estado.

Son edificios más pequeños pero con un diseño interesantes. Ambos mantienen ese diseño colonial que caracteriza mucho a este tipo de construcciones relacionadas con el gobierno, con pilares, grandes ventanas y esa estructura tan característica. Me atrevería a decir que casi todos los edificios de este tipo son iguales, pues en esa época de la colonia todos los edificios lucían así, o al menos la mayoría.

Here you can see a statue that was in the patio of one of the smaller buildings. I don't really know if it was of Bolivar, but it is in very bad condition, and you can even see that one of the statue's hands is missing.

Aquí pueden observar una estatua que estaba en el patio de uno de los edificios más pequeños. La verdad no sé si era de Bolívar, pero se ve que se encuentra en muy malas condiciones, incluso se aprecia que le falta una mano a la estatua.

Returning to the Plaza Bolivar, this is in the middle of all these buildings, even, north of the square itself is the Cathedral of San Felipe, which you can see in the background of this photograph, with the statue of Simon Bolivar preceding it, this being a characteristic statue in each of these squares.

Volviendo a la Plaza Bolívar, esta se encuentra en medio de todas estas edificaciones, incluso, al norte de la propia plaza se encuentra la Catedral de San Felipe, la cual pueden ver al fondo de esta fotografía, con la estatua de Simón Bolívar precediéndola, siendo esta una estatua característica en cada una de estas plazas.

It is a large square, in fact I think it is the largest in my city. In the picture below you can see one of the entrances, as the square has entrances from its four corners. This is one of them, with stairs that help to enter the central area of the square.

Es una plaza grande, de hecho creo que es la mas grande de mi ciudad. En la fotografía a continuación pueden ver una de las entradas, pues la plaza tiene entradas desde sus cuatro esquinas. Esta es una de estas, con escaleras que ayudan a entrar al área central de la misma.

It is surrounded by beautiful green areas, as well as a large wall that, in some parts, can be higher than even a person. These green areas are decorated at certain times of the year for parties and traditions, creating really beautiful scenery.

Está rodeada por hermosas áreas verdes, además de un muro de gran tamaño que, en algunas partes, puede llegar a ser más alto que incluso una persona. Estas áreas verdes son decoradas en ciertas épocas del año para fiestas y tradiciones, creando escenarios realmente hermosos.

All the green areas are protected by small iron fences, mostly to prevent children and visitors from stepping on the gardens and damaging them.

I remember that this did not exist. Yes there were all those little iron benches, but when I was little those fences were not there and children could enter the green areas to play and run around, but not now. I guess it's a way to keep the spaces in better condition.

Todas las áreas verdes están protegidas por pequeñas rejas de hierro, más que todo para evitar que los niños y los propios visitantes entren a la jardinería a pisarla y dañarla.
Recuerdo que esto no existía. Sí existían todos esos pequeños bancos de hierro, pero cuando era pequeño esas rejas no estaban y los niños podían entrar a las áreas verdes a jugar y correr, pero ahora no. Supongo que es una manera de mantener los espacios en mejores condiciones.

To end this brief visit to my city's Plaza Bolivar and some nearby government buildings, I leave you with these photographs I took, which could well serve as postcards.
