Relatively recently I shared with you a post where I showed you how I made a prosthesis for my rooster, who had a leg injury, well, a little more than 15 days have passed since then.

The rooster has been going about his normal activities with some difficulties, living with the other animals outside the pen, among them the smaller chicks and a hen, the mother of these chicks.

Hace relativamente poco compartí con ustedes una publicación en donde les mostré cómo le hice una prótesis para mi gallo, quien tenía una herida en la pata, pues bien, poco más de 15 días han pasado desde entonces.

El gallo ha estado en sus actividades normales con ciertas dificultades, conviviendo con los otros animales fuera del corral, entre ellos los pollitos mas pequeños y con una gallina, mamá de estos pollitos.

I have kept him out of the pen with the other hens to keep him from being in direct contact with a lot of dirt. While the concrete floor has dust and dirt on it as well, it doesn't have as much wet dirt with organic waste as the dirt floor in the yard, where the other hens are. This is beneficial because it prevented contamination of the rooster's open wounds.

Below you can see the rooster and the chicks drinking water, something that shows how well this rooster coexists with his young, despite the fact that roosters sometimes hurt the chicks when they are together for a long time.

Well, recently I checked him and I saw that he was already much better than the wounds he had, even they were already closed and had become calluses that allowed him to improve. However, because of the prosthesis itself, he was irritating a part of the paw in the lower area, so to avoid a bigger wound I removed it.

Look at the pictures below where you can see how the wounds closed, they are dry and healed. Yes, the paw is a little swollen, but compared to how it was at the beginning, it has improved a lot.

Pues bien, hace poco lo revisé y vi que ya estaba mucho mejor de las heridas que tenía, incluso ya estaban cerradas y se le habían hecho callos que permitieron mejorar. Sin embargo, por la misma prótesis, se le estaba irritando una parte de la pata en el área inferior, así que para evitar una herida mayor se lo quité.

Fíjense en las imágenes de abajo en donde pueden observar cómo las heridas cerraron, ya están secas y cicatrizadas. Sí está un poco hinchada la pata, pero comparado a como estaba en un comienzo, ha mejorado muchísimo.

I did tests and even documented for two days how he was improving during his walks. The first time I removed the prosthesis from the rooster, he did not walk; on the contrary, he stood with his injured leg raised, but as time went by he began to walk with his leg with some difficulty, he looked uncomfortable without his prosthesis, it seems that he had become accustomed to being with the prosthesis on.

Hice pruebas e incluso documenté durante dos días cómo iba mejorando durante sus caminatas. La primera vez que le quité la prótesis al gallo, este no caminó; por el contrario, se quedó de pie con la pata herida alzada, pero con el pasar del tiempo comenzó a caminar con su patita con algo de dificultad, se veía incómodo sin su prótesis, tal parece que se había acostumbrado a estar con la prótesis puesta.

Look at how he started to walk when I removed the prosthesis, you can see the discomfort he had in his paw.

Fíjense cómo comenzó a caminar cuando le quité la prótesis, se ve la incomodidad que tenía en su pata.

It was obvious this was going to happen, but I certainly thought he wouldn't even walk well without the prosthesis or that the toes would bend again if I took it off, but no, he kept his paw open and could walk well, with difficulty, but well.

Era evidente que esto iba a suceder, pero ciertamente pensé que ni siquiera caminaría bien sin la prótesis o que los dedos volverían a doblarse si se la quitaba, pero no, mantuvo su patita abierta y podía caminar bien, con dificultades, pero bien.

In this other GIF you can also see how the rooster looks the next day, he is walking much better, with more freedom and he doesn't bend his leg upwards so much because he doesn't have the prosthesis. In addition, the wound that had been made on the lower part of his leg because of the prosthesis had dried up and although the wound still needed to be healed, it was healed.

I took the opportunity to clean him and let him free in the yard, still outside the coop, so that his leg would heal completely.

En este otro GIF también pueden ver cómo se ve el gallo al día siguiente, ya camina mucho mejor, con mas libertad y ya no dobla tanto la pata hacia arriba por no tener la prótesis. Además, la herida que se le había hecho en la parte inferior de la pata por tener la prótesis ya se le había secado y aunque aún faltaba curar esa herida, sí la tenía sana.

Aproveché de limpiarlo para dejarlo libremente por el patio, aún fuera del gallinero, para que se curara completamente de la pata.

On the other hand, you may know that hens sleep hanging from tree branches, well, because of the prosthesis he had, this rooster could not sleep on a branch, so he slept next to the hen with the chicks, who in turn slept with another orphan chick (much bigger than the other chicks). who also sleeps with the hen.

Here you can see that even after I removed the prosthesis, the rooster continued to sleep with this hen.

Por otra parte, quizás sepan que las gallinas duermen colgadas de ramas de árboles, pues bien, por la prótesis que tenía, este gallo no podía dormir en una rama, así que dormía al lado de la gallina con los pollitos, quien a su vez dormía con otro pollito huérfano (mucho más grande que los otros pollitos). que también duerme con la gallina.

Aquí pueden ver que incluso después que le quité la prótesis, el gallo continuó durmiendo con esta gallina.
