Our Sicilian bread is perfect to spread with creams or to accompany savory meals.

MATERIALS : For one unit:

100 grams of flour.
100 ml of water.
5 grams of yeast.
300 grams of flour.
100 gr semolina (if you don't have semolina add the 400 gr of flour).
10 grams of salt.
From 200 to 250 ml of water.
5 gr of yeast plus the sponge.
1 tablespoon of olive oil.

  • Step 1. To make the sponge, mix all the ingredients and leave covered in a plastic container with paper fil for a minimum fermentation time of 6 hours.

  • Step 2: In a bowl place 200 ml of water, the tablespoon of olive oil, the flour, the semolina and the salt.

  • Step 3: Add the fermented sponge and knead everything very well. If the dough requires liquid, gradually add the remaining 50 ml of water.

  • Step 4: Knead the dough for 10 minutes, make the bread and leave a second rising phase until it doubles in size.

  • Step 5: Bake preferably on the direct floor to obtain a hard and crispy crust.

Bread is a healthy energy source
In a diet of about 2,000 calories, those 250 grams of bread (a quarter loaf!) would only cover 30% of energy needs. In addition, these are very well used calories, as they are accompanied by abundant nutrients.

For example, I make a butter dough sandwich bread with bran and sesame, a very healthy bread for people.

you can eat bread but not every day, especially if you are a person with a sedentary life, that's why I like to prepare my breads in a way that they are healthy. Consuming too much of this product will contribute to obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. While going whole-grain will provide fiber and other nutrients and protect against these conditions in moderation, I love making my sesame bran shortbread.

How much bread is healthy to eat a day?

Nutrition experts advise eating a maximum of two servings of bread daily, equivalent to between 250 and 500 grams. However, this ration can change if traditional white bread is replaced with low-fat, whole-grain, high-fiber breads.

What is the healthiest type of bread?

Whole grain bread contains all the parts of the original grain, including nutrients like B vitamins, fiber, and potassium. This makes it a more nutritious option than white or refined bread.

Sesame helps the process of reducing blood cholesterol, given that one of its components is the presence of unsaturated fats and lecithin, which is a broad natural emulsifier.

Benefits of consuming bran

  • Fight constipation and prevent diverticulosis
  • Helps control plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels
  • Protects against colon cancer
  • Effective against diabetes
  • Vitamins and minerals for health
  • Avoid gases
  • Gives a feeling of satiety

Oh wow! It is quite nice to know how to do things like this. I once tried to bake a cake, oh boy! It didn’t turn out well.
