Saludos a todos los miembros de la comunidad, ¿cómo están? No recuerdo si he comentado en alguna oportunidad que una de mis pasiones es escribir desde empezada mi adolescencia, donde comencé mis primeras aproximaciones hacia el arte de la escritura con en principio novelas románticas que siempre contenían de alguna manera momentos de acción. Por aquella época me encantaba visitar las librerías, donde me esmeraba en conseguir libros que me inspiraran en lo que me interesaba plasmar con mi toque de imaginación en el papel, siendo fanática de la fantasía pues me llamaban la atención todo lo que tuviese que ver con los piratas, sobre todo considerando que se han desarrollado en películas, series de televisión y libros como estos personajes atrayentes. Fue así como este libro llegó a mis manos.
Greetings to all the members of the community, how are you? I don't remember if I have commented on occasion that one of my passions is writing since I was a teenager, where I began my first approaches to the art of writing with romantic novels that always contained in some way moments of action. At that time I loved to visit bookstores, where I tried to get books that inspired me in what I was interested in capturing with my touch of imagination on paper, being a fan of fantasy because I was attracted to everything that had to do with pirates, especially considering that they have been developed in movies, television series and books as these appealing characters. That's how this book came into my hands.
Llamado ‘Breve historia de los piratas, corsarios, bucaneros y filibusteros’ deja entrever desde un inicio de qué se trata, Silvia Miguens haciendo un maravilloso trabajo para relatar acontecimientos históricos sin que se sienta aburrido por la cantidad de fechas y nombres. La verdad es que a través de este libro aprendí que son necesarias ciertas investigaciones previas antes de poder escribir verdaderamente sobre algo en específico, ¿cómo poder escribir una historia que involucre piratas si no se sabe de dónde provienen y cómo funcionaban? Debe empezarse desde un principio, avanzar a medida de que se van desarrollando los acontecimientos, destacando su evolución, así como el entorno donde se desenvolvían que sin duda alguna suponen una diferencia de importancia para poder entender el todo que se trata de explicar.
Called 'A Brief History of Pirates, Privateers, Buccaneers and Filibusters', Silvia Miguens does a wonderful job of narrating historical events without it feeling boring because of the amount of dates and names. The truth is that through this book I learned that you need to do some research before you can really write about something specific, how can you write a story involving pirates if you don't know where they came from and how they worked? You have to start from the beginning, move forward as the events unfold, highlighting their evolution, as well as the environment where they developed, which undoubtedly make an important difference in order to understand the whole that you are trying to explain.
La creación de un mundo de fantasía no es tarea sencilla por lo mismo que traer a la vida algo a partir de la nada nunca será simple, no solamente son los personajes que están dentro de la historia, sino también la ambientación, algo que se describe a la perfección en este libro. No se limita a presentarnos las embarcaciones con sus características, trae al lector esos acontecimientos que se desarrollaban alrededor de los mares, cómo estaban conformados determinados puertos de relevancia histórica, las armas que usaban los piratas y los vikingos… este es un compendio completo que lleva la información a un nivel para el cual no estaba preparada pero que recibí con gusto por la posibilidad de poder inspirarme a partir de las bases creando algo nuevo, que pudiera llamar mío.
The creation of a fantasy world is not an easy task, for the same reason that bringing something to life from nothing will never be simple, it is not only the characters that are within the story, but also the setting, something that is described to perfection in this book. It is not limited to presenting the ships with their characteristics, it brings to the reader those events that took place around the seas, how certain ports of historical relevance were formed, the weapons used by the pirates and the Vikings... this is a complete compendium that takes the information to a level for which I was not prepared but that I received with pleasure for the possibility of being able to be inspired from the bases creating something new, that I could call my own.
Muchos de los nombres reconocidos son mencionados aquí y hacen que la lectura no se sienta demasiado histórica aunque lo sea, por cuestión propia de sus características, siendo necesario destacar nuevamente la forma en que se presenta la información porque por cómo está escrito hace que pueda leerse como si se tratara de un libro de ficción y no un libro propiamente de historia, lo cual me parece magnífico al mostrar su capacidad de transmitir información entretenidamente. Cuando se es joven la historia no llama demasiado la atención, de haber sido presentado muy denso el libro no lo hubiese leído porque la primera vez que lo leí no tenía la madurez suficiente para que apreciara la importancia del conocimiento que te aporta leer sobre historia, aunque debe respetarse también los gustos, hay adultos a los que no les gustan tampoco.
Many of the recognized names are mentioned here and make the reading not feel too historical although it is, as a matter of its own characteristics, being necessary to emphasize again the way in which the information is presented because the way it is written makes it read as if it were a fiction book and not a book of history itself, which I think is great to show its ability to convey information entertainingly. When you are young, history does not attract too much attention, if the book had been presented very dense I would not have read it because the first time I read it I was not mature enough to appreciate the importance of the knowledge that reading about history gives you, although one must also respect tastes, there are adults who do not like them either.
Recomiendo esta lectura para aquellos que les interesa leer de historia y se sienten atraídos hacia el desarrollo de la piratería a través de los años, pero a los que no, pueden entender este libro perfectamente como uno de fantasía donde esas interesantes personas como Barbanegra que han sido utilizados en la ficción cobran vida con hechos reales. De cualquier manera es una lectura madura que tiene contenido que a decir verdad no recomendaría para menores de edad precisamente pues no tiene mucha censura respecto a mencionar determinados actos como la decapitación que bien podría ser algo demasiado crudo para algunos, por ello a los padres que están tratando que sus hijos emprendan un viaje de conocimiento interesante de la mano de la lectura sepan de antemano sobre este pequeño detalle.
I recommend this reading for those who are interested in reading about history and are attracted to the development of piracy through the years, but for those who are not, they can understand this book perfectly well as a fantasy book where those interesting people like Blackbeard that have been used in fiction come to life with real facts. Either way it is a mature reading that has content that to tell the truth I would not recommend for minors precisely because it does not have much censorship regarding the mention of certain acts such as decapitation that could well be something too crude for some, so parents who are trying to get their children to undertake a journey of interesting knowledge through reading should know beforehand about this small detail.

What an interesting book that you're sharing in this occasion!
Great post. I'd recommend a docu series called The Lost Pirate Kingdom I learnt about Blackbeard thought this actually.
I found it fascinating how privateers we're Pirates with papers that the British used to do their dirty work who eventually went rogue.
Ooooh I love pirates content and all 😌
