Where on Wednesday twenty one: Flipping coins and booking flights

avatar

We've been thinking about a trip for my 50th birthday which is coming up in March next year...I know, right? Ancient! Positively pre-historic...Ahh, shadap! πŸ˜ƒ

Anyway, my wife Faith has been intent upon us going away somewhere to mark my ascension into old age...She's even suggested I change my name to Galenkposaurus; A suggestion for which I administered a few disciplinary actions, namely some smacks on the bum - She liked it though, so that backfired. 😁

I haven't been keen on the idea of a vacation for my birthday as we are travelling to Europe in July also - Trips to Europe from Australia are generally expensive and so I've questioned the additional expense of a trip in March, especially for the purpose of celebrating my birthday.

As usual, what I think hasn't had much bearing on what we actually do and so last night the decision to go away in March was made. We decided upon Tasmania or Western Australia as possible destinations.

Both have great benefits with WA seeming the way to go as we haven't been there. We only have 8 days available to us though and we'd want longer than that for our first trip to WA; We've been to Tasmania before and figure 8 days there would allow us to pick up where we left off last time. We couldn't decide though and so we flipped a coin. Heads Tasmania, tales Western Australia.

Heads it was and so we're off to Tasmania.

Today I took some time out of the day, on company time of course, to book the flights which were pretty cheap to be honest. We ended up getting flights for $320 per person return, flying in the last week of March.

We have to get a hire car, I'm thinking a Bugatti Chiron for this trip, and of course, get some accommodation booked but having those flights squared away is always the first step, and a happy day!

It always feels good to get flights booked and we always do so early as it gives us something to look forward to; The expectation of getting away together and exploring the world - Or in this case, little old Tassie.

I'm not big on celebrating my birthday to be quite honest - Other people's yes, but my own, not so much. It's just another day and so I tend not to get too excited about it. I get excited about holidays though and am looking forward to heading back to Tasmania, one of the most beautiful places Australia has to offer. Of course I'll blog along the way; You'd miss me too much if I didn't.

Anyway, that's what I'm doing/have just done this Wednesday whilst sitting in my office getting paid to do something else. πŸ˜‚

Just tag #whereonwednesday in your post, on a Wednesday, to join in if you would like. It's not a challenge or anything dumb like that, neither do you get anything for it. It's just a chance to post your thoughts and maybe a picture or two.

Oh damn I FORGOTTTTTT!!!! Let me see what I can whip up tonight. I need a diary for Steemposts!! We might be going on the ferry to Tassie to see friends in Hobart in a few weeks, maybe. Exy though. I don't even want to go - just obligated! It does feel nice to have flights booked - everything else will fall into place. And 50 - yay! Every year we are alive is a total bonus!

I'm flying to Launceston on the 13th (Friday next week) for a university graduation but it's only for a couple days. My brother is graduating as a nautical engineer. Next year will be a little longer and we're looking forward to it. Tasmania is an awesome spot - Been a while since we were there though. Who knows, you might have a good time once you're there huh?

As a 17 year Hobbit (Hobart) resident (still a Victorian at heart though), let me know if you need any local insight into the area.

Sounds like a plan...I'll hit you up if I need some guidance. Been there before briefly...Went to a cool Greek restaurant at Salamanca Square...Looks like it's still there...And will go there again. It was amazing!

Yeah Mezethes is still going strong. Been a few years since I've eaten there, but it's still good.

For Italian you can't go past Don Camillo in Sandy Bay too

What a coincidence. I'm going to Tasmania and WA for part of my birthday celebration, leaving in January.

That's cool...Well, it might be hot in WA at that time of year! When we head to WA we want to do six weeks road-trip style in our camper trailer so decided Tassie was the way to go for now.

The Bugatti Chiron is a very sexy car indeed. There's a rather expensive, but ultimately far far cheaper, Lego Technic version available. :D

Tasmania sounds great. I have a few friends that live there.

To be honest I'm not sure Hertz rents them (Actually I know they don't). Glad someone picked up on it - Means you went through and scanned the text. πŸ˜ƒ

I saw that Lego one and will be getting it at some stage. It's a big build with a big price tag though. ($599) I'll get it when it's on sale.

I like booking things in advance too, having that holiday in the bag that you know is coming is awesome!

Nice post! I don’t get too excited about my own birthday either. Australia is great! I have been to 37 countries and I loved Iceland. Very unique place and the dollar goes far. Have a happy birthday and a great trip.

Thanks for stopping by and having a look. Yes, Australia is a great place, lived here all my life, and whilst I've travelled around the world, I always love coming home. Thanks for your comment. Greatly appreciated.

You might end up on the BBQ man! πŸ˜‚

They have crocodile jerky here, comes from the Northern Territory (Darwin area). It's not bad. I've had croc steaks before - Would do it again.

Ha! 50 is old? lol..you're almost a kid to me! 50 is only middle-aged. Hey maybe this is the post I saw but I thought you were going to Singapore for some reason. lol. But you ARE going to Europe so that must be nice.

Galenkposaurus! lol..I think you should change your username to that if you think you're that old.

Yeah, Europe in July 2020, via Singapore as I fly with Singapore Airlines. This must be where you got it from.
