Saludos hivers. El arte es aprendizaje y experimentación constante, todo suma a nuestro conocimiento y todo ayuda a formar y definir nuestro estilo para dibujar, componer y crear. Hoy quise hacer algo diferente en mi práctica con el color y para hacerlo elegí dibujar un retrato ya que a nivel personal, he hecho casi siempre retratos a lápiz, o sea, en blanco y negro, por miedo a no saber cómo usar los colores en los rostros, así que quiero atreverme con algo novedoso para mí. Hello hivers! Art is constant learning and experimentation, everything adds to our knowledge and helps shape and define our style for drawing, composing, and creating. Today I wanted to do something different with color, and to do it, I chose to draw a portrait. Personally, I have almost always done pencil portraits, that's in black and white, because I was afraid of not knowing how to use color on faces. So, I wanted to try something new. Para este dibujo elegí una cartulina de papel construcción en color naranja ya que combina perfectamente con el estilo cálido que tendrá este dibujo, el resto de los materiales fueron, lápiz, borra, creyones de óleo pastel, lápices de colores, marcador negro, bolígrafo negro y un poquito de algodón. Empecé con el boceto a lápiz e hice el marco con un marcador negro. Se me hizo un poquito difícil tomar buenas fotos con este fondo 🥴.

For this drawing, I chose orange construction paper because it perfectly matches the warm style of the drawing. The other materials I used were a pencil, eraser, oil pastel crayons, colored pencils, a black marker, a black pen, and a little bit of cotton. I started with a pencil sketch and drew the frame with a black marker. It was a little difficult to take good photos with this background 🥴.

La idea de esta técnica es definir las luces y sombras usando colores diferentes a los habituales de un rostro y hacerlo de una forma más saturada y marcando bien cada color. Siempre se empieza por los tonos más claros, en este caso, el color blanco que usé para las partes más iluminadas del rostro.

The idea behind this technique is to define the highlights and shadows using different colors from the usual ones of a face, applying them in a more saturated way and clearly defining each color. You always start with the lightest tones, in this case, I used white for the most illuminated parts of the face.

Después utilicé el amarillo para iluminar otras partes del rostro, y con anaranjado, rojo y verde fuí agregando sombras y contornos. Los creyones de óleo pastel se pueden difuminar con la yema de los dedos pero también usé un poquito de algodón.

Then I used yellow to highlight other parts of the face, and with orange, red and green I added shadows and contours. Oil pastel crayons can be blended with your fingertips, but I also used a little bit of cotton.

Nada mejor que unos labios rojos para darle aún mas calidez a este rostro, esta mujer tendrá una cabellera negra así que el azul quedará perfecto para los reflejos de su cabello, y también lo usé de fondo para colorear las cejas.

Nothing better than red lips to give even more warmth to this face, this woman will have black hair so the blue will be perfect for the highlights in her hair, and I also used it as a background to color the eyebrows.

Para que un rostro cobre vida es necesario pintar los ojos, me gusta el contraste del verde con los colores cálidos así que los coloreé con un tono verde grama, será una hermosa combinación con las cejas y el cabello negro. Con azul celeste, crema y blanco pinté la parte blanca de los ojos.

To bring a face to life, it's necessary to paint the eyes. I like the contrast of green with warm colors, so I colored them with a grass green tone. It will be a beautiful combination with the black eyebrows and black hair. I painted the white part of the eyes with light blue, cream, and white.

Llegó el momento de darle color al cabello, también agregué algunas sombras más intensas usando verde y rojo, y por último, dibujé las pestañas con un bolígrafo negro.

Time to add color to the hair. I also added some more intense shadows using green and red, and finally, I drew the eyelashes with a black pen.

En un soleado día a orillas del mar Caribe una hermosa mujer contempla el atardecer 🌇, los cálidos colores que pintan el cielo se reflejan sobre su rostro mientras la brisa marina agita suavemente su larga cabellera negra. Y este es el resultado final 👌🏻.

¿Qué opinan, les gusta? Es increíble como trabaja la teoría del color, sería impensable usar colores como el verde o el rojo para dibujar un rostro, pero al hacerlo nos damos cuenta de lo increíble que esto funciona ya que en el fondo, los colores que vemos son una ilusión óptica del resultado de la mezcla de los que no vemos directamente, pura magia 🎨👌🏻. It would be unthinkable to use colors like green or red to draw a face, but when we do it, we realize how amazing it is because, ultimately, the colors we see are an optical illusion resulting from the mixing of those we don't directly see, pure magic! 🎨👌🏻 This is the first drawing in a series of colorful portraits I'll be doing to experiment with color.
